Woodstock College
Woodstock College was a Jesuit seminary that existed from 1869 to 1974. It was the oldest Jesuit seminary in the United States. The school was located in Woodstock, Maryland, west of Baltimore, from its establishment until 1969, when it moved to New York City, where it operated in cooperation with the Union Theological Seminary and the Jewish Theological Seminary. The school closed in 1974. It was survived by the Woodstock Theological Center, an independent, nonprofit Catholic research institute located at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Anthony Maas
Anthony John Maas (1859–1927) was a noted Catholic exegete, or writer of critical interpretation of scripture. Biography Anthony Maas was born in Bainkhausen, Province of Westphalia, Prussia on August 23, 1858. He was educated at public and private schools and the gymnasium at Arnsberg, Westphalia, the Jesuit scholasticates at Manresa, New York, Woodstock College, and Manresa, Spain. Maas came to the United States, entered the Society of Jesus in 1877, and was ordained, 1887. He was professor of Scripture (1891-1905) and prefect of studies (1897-1905) at Woodstock, assistant editor of ''The Messenger'' in New York (1905-1907), rector of Woodstock College (1907-1912), and provincial of the Maryland-New York Province, resident in New York (1912-1927). Avery Robert Dulles (; 1918–2008) was an American Jesuit priest, theologian, and cardinal of the Catholic Church. Dulles served on the faculty of Woodstock College from 1960 to 1974, of the Catholic University of America from 1974 to 1988, and as the Laurence J. McGinley Professor of Religion and Society at Fordham University from 1988 to 2008. He was also an internationally known author and lecturer. Eugene Charles (short name "Gene") Ulrich (born November 5, 1938) is an American Dead Sea scrolls scholar and the John A. O'Brien Professor ''emeritus'' of Hebrew Bible, Hebrew Scripture and Theology in the Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. He is chief editor of the biblical texts of the Dead Sea scrolls and one of the three general editors of the Scrolls International Publication Project. William Tecumseh Sherman ( ; February 8, 1820February 14, 1891) was an American soldier, businessman, educator, and author. He served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War (1861–1865), achieving recognition for his command of military strategy as well as criticism for the harshness of the scorched-earth policies that he implemented against the Confederate States. British military theorist and historian B. H. Liddell Hart declared that Sherman was "the first modern general". Harold Edward "Hap" Ridley SJ (June 20, 1939 – January 18, 2005) was the 23rd President of Loyola College in Maryland from July 1, 1994 until his death. Early life and career Born in Jersey City, New Jersey he joined the Jesuits in 1956, and was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in 1969. Ridley was educated at Fordham University, Woodstock College and the Union Theological Seminary. He earned his Ph.D. in English literature from New York University. Gerard Reedy
Gerard C. Reedy, S.J., (October 25, 1939 – March 11, 2016) was an American Jesuit priest, academic and academic administrator. Reedy served as the 30th President of the College of the Holy Cross from 1994 until 1998. He also served as a professor of English and academic dean at Fordham University for almost forty years. His writings include two books: ''The Bible and Reason: Anglicans and Scripture in Late Seventeenth-Century England'' and ''Robert South (1634-1716): An Introduction to His Life and Sermons''.
