List Of Parliamentary Constituencies In South Glamorgan
__NOTOC__ The Preserved county of South Glamorgan is divided into five parliamentary constituencies: four borough constituencies and one county constituency. The current boundaries have been effective since the 2007 National Assembly for Wales election and the 2010 United Kingdom general election. Constituencies The Vale of Glamorgan constituency was formed out of the Barry constituency in 1983, with Penarth supplementing abolished Cardiff South to become Cardiff South and Penarth. Proposed boundary changes The Boundary Commission for Wales submitted their final proposals in respect of the Sixth Periodic Review of Westminster Constituencies (the 2018 review) in September 2018. Although the proposals were immediately laid before Parliament they were not brought forward by the Government for approval. Preserved County
The preserved counties of Wales are the eight current areas used in Wales for the ceremonial purposes of lieutenancy and shrievalty. They are based on the counties created by the Local Government Act 1972 and used for local government and other purposes between 1974 and 1996. Currently 22 single-tier principal areas are used for administrative purposes. Usage The Local Government (Wales) Act 1994 abolished the eight ceremonial counties created by the Local Government Act 1972. However, it created the concept of preserved counties based on their areas, to be used for purposes such as Lieutenancy. This usage was consolidated by the Lieutenancies Act 1997. Barry was a parliamentary constituency in Glamorgan (later South Glamorgan), Wales which returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first past the post voting system. Alun Cairns
Alun Hugh Cairns (born 30 July 1970) is a Welsh Conservative Party politician serving as the member of Parliament (MP) for Vale of Glamorgan since 2010.
