The ceremonial county, county of Merseyside created in 1974 has 15 United Kingdom constituencies, parliamentary constituencies — (sub-classified into 12 of Borough constituency, borough type and three of County constituency, county status affecting the level of expenses permitted and status of returning officer). The area, centred on its largest city of Liverpool, has since that year elected a majority of Labour Party (UK), Labour Party MPs moreover since 1997 at least 13 of 15 seats have been held or won by the party at each general election. The two other largest parties nationally in England have to date won intermittently in the two larger seats within the four in the Wirral, the peninsula facing Liverpool, and best having alternately represented the seat centred on the coastal strip in and around the leisure resort of Southport. Bootle is a constituency which has been represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Peter Dowd of the Labour Party. History From 1885 to 1935, the constituency returned Conservative MPs, with its most notable MP being Conservative Party leader Bonar Law from 1911 to 1918, when property qualifications for the vote were abolished. Bonar Law would later serve as UK Prime Minister from 1922 to 1923, though at that point he no longer represented Bootle in the House of Commons. Kim Johnson (politician)
Kim Marie Johnson (born 25 August 1966) is a British Labour Party politician. She has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Liverpool Riverside since the 2019 general election. She is Liverpool's first black MP. She is a member of the Socialist Campaign Group parliamentary caucus. Early life and career Kim is the daughter of Joseph Johnson and Kathleen Johnson. She has a Diploma in Youth and Community Work, a BA in Social Studies, and a Postgraduate Certificate. Since 2015, Johnson has been the Chairperson of Squash Liverpool, a Community Interest Company. In 2020, she became a patron of Mandela8. Prior to becoming an MP, Johnson was a Unison shop steward. George Howarth
Sir George Edward Howarth (born 29 June 1949) is a British Labour Party politician who serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Knowsley. He also served the seat's predecessors since being elected in a by-election in 1986, firstly as the MP for Knowsley North (until 1997) and then Knowsley North and Sefton East (1997–2010). Early life and career Born in Prescot, Howarth was educated at the local Huyton Secondary School, the Kirkby College of Further Education, and the Liverpool John Moores University. He went on to study at the University of Salford. He served his apprenticeship for four years from 1966 as an engineer, and then worked as an engineer until 1975 when he moved into teaching. Knowsley is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since its 2010 creation by George Howarth of the Labour Party. History Created for the 2010 general election (during the Boundary Commission for England's Fifth Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies), the area returned the second highest share of the vote seen by a candidate for the Labour Party, of 70.9%, behind the 72.0% achieved in Liverpool Walton. The same ranking of results nationally occurred in 2015. Maria Eagle (born 17 February 1961) is a British politician who served in the governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. She later served in the Shadow Cabinets of Ed Miliband and Jeremy Corbyn. A member of the Labour Party, she has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Garston and Halewood, previously Liverpool Garston, since 1997.
