Orthophoto
An orthophoto, orthophotograph, orthoimage or orthoimagery is an aerial photograph or satellite imagery geometrically corrected ("orthorectified") such that the scale is uniform: the photo or image follows a given map projection. Unlike an uncorrected aerial photograph, an orthophoto can be used to measure true distances, because it is an accurate representation of the Earth's surface, having been adjusted for topographic relief, lens distortion, and camera tilt. Orthophotographs are commonly used in geographic information systems (GIS) as a "map accurate" background image. An orthorectified image differs from "rubber sheeted" rectifications as the latter may accurately locate a number of points on each image but "stretch" the area between so scale may not be uniform across the image. A digital elevation model (DEM) is required to create an accurate orthophoto as distortions in the image due to the varying distance between the camera/sensor and different points on the g ... State Bureau Of Surveying And Mapping
The State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, or the National Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (), was the central agency that was responsible for surveying and mapping in the People's Republic of China (PRC). It was established in 1959 and was made defunct in March 2018. It was affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping (CASM). In January 2018, a rule was introduced stating that all maps had to be approved by the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping prior to publishing, republishing, import or export. This rule affects maps printed in the PRC but for a foreign audience. In March 2018, the 13th National People's Congress announced that the newly formed Ministry of Natural Resources shall replace the functions of the Ministry of Land & Resources, State Oceanic Administration and the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping. Tianditu (; also Map World in logos) is China’s official free web mapping service. It was launched by China’s State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (SBSM) on 22 October 2010. Tianditu seeks to offer functions similar to those provided by Google mapping service. The creation of Tianditu is seen as part of the Chinese government’s strategy to squeeze Google out of the China market, eventually making Tianditu the main source of geographic information for Chinese users. This objective is also expressed in various government publications that describe Tianditu as the ‘authoritative’ source for online geographic information. For example, SBSM Director General Xu Deming expressed that the ultimate aim is to create ‘one web, one map, and one platform’, offering the most authoritative and comprehensive web mapping services to Chinese citizens. Xu Deming also emphasized that Tianditu would be a ‘reliable and excellent national brand’ in the field of online mapping services ...
