List Of Newspapers In Iran
The first Iranian newspapers appeared in the mid-19th century during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah. More specifically, the first newspaper in Iran, Kaghaz-e Akhbar (The Newspaper), was launched for the government by Mirza Saleh Shirazi in 1837. By 1907 (the era of the Persian Constitutional Revolution), there were 90 newspapers circulating in Iran. In 1952 under Mohammad Musaddiq's government there were 300 newspapers, including twenty-five dailies. During the 1979 revolution the number of newspapers was 100, of which twenty-three were dailies. As of 2000 there were 23 Persian dailies, three English dailies and one Arabic daily in the country. In the period between 2000 and 2004 a total of 85 newspapers were closed down in Iran. Aftab Yazd
''Aftab-e Yazd'' (آفتاب یزد lit. "The Yazd Sun") is a Persian-language daily reformist newspaper published in Tehran, Iran. The title of the paper means “the sun of Yazd” in Persian. History and profile ''Aftab Yazd'' was started in August 2000. The paper, based in Tehran, is affiliated with the Association of Combatant Clerics (of which former President Mohammad Khatami is a leading member). The paper focuses on political, cultural, social and economic news. In June 2005, before the 2005 presidential election, the paper along with another one, ''Eqbal'', published the letter of presidential candidate Mahdi Karroubi to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Upon this publication both papers were banned for one day by Tehran Public and Revolutionary Court. The daily was also temporarily ceased in June 2009 following the presidential elections. In December 2009 it was again warned by the ministry of culture for publishing "divisive" material.

Entekhab
''Entekhab'' (Persian: انتخاب; ''Choice'') was a Persian language newspaper published in Iran between 1991 and 2004. Nevertheless, its news website is active under the name of "Entekhab" (Entekhab.ir) and has turned into one of the most highly visited news websites in Iran, close to reformists. History ''Entekhab'' was founded by Mohammad Mahdi Faghihi, who was previously the founder of the respected philosophical quarterly, ''Naghd va Nazar''. The daily had a moderate stance and its editorials were mostly educated in Qom's seminary, but their new insights on Entekhab shook the political scene in Iran during the late 1990s. Khamenei ordered the paper to close down shortly after its start. Although it was reopened later, the paper was banned in 2004. ''Ebtekar'' ( fa, ابتکار, lit=Innovation) is a Persian-language newspaper published in Tehran, Iran. Bahar (newspaper)
''Bahar'' ( fa, بهار, lit=The Spring) is a reformist newspaper published in Persian. The paper is based in Tehran, Iran. History and profile ''Bahar'' was established in May 2000. The managing editor of the paper was Saeed Pourazizi who served as director general of the Presidential Media Office when Mohammad Khatami was in office. The daily has been banned for several times. It was banned on 9 August 2000. Following ten-year ban it was relaunched in January 2010. However, it was again closed down by the Press Supervisory Board on 19 April 2010 for "publishing items contrary to reality" and "creating doubt regarding major issues such as the elections." Asr-e Azadegan
''Asr-e Azadegan'' ( fa, عصر آزادگان, lit=Times of the Free People) was a Persian-language daily newspaper in Iran published briefly between 1999 and 2000. History and profile ''Asr-e Azadegan'' was established on 7 October 1999. The founder and publisher of the daily was Hamid Reza Jalaipour who also launched ''Jameah'', ''Toos'' and '' Neshat'' which had been all closed down before the launching of ''Asr-e Azadegan''.
