Latvian Railway History Museum
Latvian Railway History Museum ( lv, Latvijas dzelzceļa vēstures muzejs) is a railway museum with expositions in Riga and in Jelgava, dedicated to the history of railway and its development in Latvia . The museum is a structural unit of the company " Latvijas dzelzceļš". The museum has the largest collection of wide-gauge vehicles in the Baltics. Museum in Riga The museum's Riga exposition is located in 19th century locomotive repair shops located in Pārdaugava, near the main building of the National Library of Latvia known as ''Castle of Light''. It was established on August 30, 1994, and contains more than a thousand railway-related items. Samples of uniforms, tickets, train schedules and other things related to the Latvian Railway can be seen in the expositions. Riga Film Museum
Riga Film Museum is the only museum of its kind in Latvia. It holds various exhibitions that display different aspects of cinema art, actors and film history. The museum was founded in 1988 and is located in two buildings: an 18th-century building located on 10 Peitavas Street in Vecrīga, and the building of Eduards Smiļģis' Theater Museum on 1 Talsu Street in Pārdaugava. History The idea to establish the Film Museum in Riga came about during the traditional cinema forum called ”Kino Diena” (English: "''Film Day"'') in 1986. Riga Aviation Museum
Riga Aviation Museum is an aviation museum in Riga, Latvia. Location and history The museum was located on the grounds of Riga International Airport and is regularly open for public viewing. Its Latvian language, Latvian name is ''Rīgas aviācijas muzejs''. It was established in 1956 by Victor Talpa, who worked for the Latvian Civil Aviation Agency, Latvian Civil Aviation Administration, but it was privatised in 1997. Paul Stradins Museum of the History of Medicine ( lv, Paula Stradiņa Medicīnas vēstures muzejs) is museum in Riga, one of the largest medical museums in the world. The exposition presents the development of medicine and pharmacology from ancient times. A separate section is devoted to the history of medicine Latvia. The museum building, at Antonijas Street 1, Riga, was designed in 1875 in the style of neo-Renaissance by a Riga architect, academician of architecture Heinrich Scheel. For the needs of the museum building was remodeled in 1957. History of the museum The museum was founded on October 1, 1957 and open to visitors in 1961. Ojārs Vācietis
Ojārs Vācietis (born November 13, 1933 — November 28, 1983) was a Latvian writer and poet. He is often considered one of the most famous and influential poets in the Latvian SSR. Biography Ojārs Vācietis was born on November 13, 1933 in Trapene Parish, Latvia. His father Oto Vācietis was a servant. Vācietis studied in Trapane primary school and later in Gaujiena secondary school. 1952 he started Latvian language and literature studies at the University of Latvia. He graduated in 1957. Since 1958 he worked in several Latvian magazines and newspapers (for example: ''Literatūra un Māksla'', ''Liesma'', ''Draugs''). He was also an editor at the Riga Film Studio. In the 1960s he started to question many official ideological dogmas of the Soviet regime in his poems. As a result, he was not allowed to publish from 1960-1966. Museum “Jews In Latvia”
The Museum “Jews in Latvia” ( lv, Muzejs „Ebreji Latvijā”) is located in Riga, Latvia. The main tasks of the museum are the research and popularisation of History of the Jews in Latvia, as well as the collection and preservation of evidence regarding the community of Latvian Jews from its beginning until the present time. The museum was founded in 1989. It is part of the Latvian Jewish community and one of the few private museums in Latvia accredited by the state. The Museum of the Occupation of Latvia ( lv, Latvijas Okupācijas muzejs) is a museum and historic educational institution located in Riga, Latvia. It was established in 1993 to exhibit artifacts, archive documents, and educate the public about the 51-year period in the 20th century when Latvia was successively occupied by the USSR in 1940–1941, then by Nazi Germany in 1941–1944, and then again by the USSR in 1944–1991. Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation ( lv, Rīgas vēstures un kuģniecības muzejs) is housed by the Riga Dom Cathedral ensemble in the heart of the Old Riga, Latvia. It originated in 1773 as a private collection of Nikolaus von Himsel, a Riga doctor and, being one of the oldest museums in Europe, over the centuries it has grown into the largest collection of material evidence of the history of Riga.
