''The Coming Race'' is a novel by Edward Bulwer-Lytton, published anonymously in 1871. It has also been published as ''Vril, the Power of the Coming Race''. Some readers have believed the account of a superior subterranean master race and the energy-form called "Vril", at least in part; some theosophists, notably Helena Blavatsky, William Scott-Elliot, and Rudolf Steiner, accepted the book as based on occult truth, in part. One 1960 book, ''The Morning of the Magicians'' by Jacques Bergier and Louis Pauwels, suggested that a secret Vril Society existed in Weimar Berlin. ''Lapin kullan kimallus'' (Finnish for ''The glitter of Lappish gold'') is a 1999 Finnish movie, directed by Åke Lindman. The movie is about the Lapland gold rush in the end of the 19th century. It stars Pirkka-Pekka Petelius as Nils Lepistö and Vesa Vierikko as Jakob Ervasti. Plot summary In his hometown Oulu, Lepistö meets a man who shows him a map of Lapland, showing an "X" mark at the spot where he claims is gold. Lepistö believes the man and shows the map to his companion Ervasti. Lepistö and Ervasti travel to the Teno River, where they manage to find two kilograms of gold. They travel back to Oulu to lay official claim on the find site but are told it has already been claimed. Finally a large gold rush to Lapland starts. ''Mother of Mine'' ( fi, Äideistä parhain, sv, Den bästa av mödrar) is a 2005 Finnish drama film directed by Klaus Härö. The film is based on a novel by Heikki Hietamies. It received good reviews from the Finnish press, and was selected to be Finland's submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 78th Academy Awards. The film had its world premiere at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival, where it finished fifth in the audience balloting. Plot The story is a discussion between Eero and his biological mother (Kirsti), where they are talking to each other and clarifying their misunderstanding and difference in present time. Eero has just come back from his visit from Sweden for Signe's (Swedish mother) funeral. Literally "Road of Rukajärvi", the film debuted on 22 January 1999 in Finland, after which it was released internationally. Plot Many years ago, in Lapland, a boy named Nikolas is orphaned when his family are killed in an accident. The heads of the families in the village meet to decide his future and, as life in the arctic is difficult, it is decided that as no one family could care for him permanently, they would raise him communally, with each family taking him for one year and then moving him on to the next. Grateful, Nikolas begins whittling toys out of wood as a gift which, each Christmas, he leaves for the family that cared for him. ''Tommy and the Wildcat'' ( fi, Poika ja ilves) is a 1998 Finnish adventure family film directed by Raimo O. Niemi and Ville Suhonen, and starring Konsta Hietanen. It tells story about Tommy, the twelve-year-old boy, who tries to help a lynx named Leevi to survive in the wilderness. The lynx in the film was a played by lynx named Väinö from the Ranua Zoo. Väinö was born in 1996 and died in May 1999. It is assumed that he climbed up the mesh fence and fell on a sharp stone, which resulted in the death of the animal. Väinö had gotten used to people as a kitty when he had grown up in home care after being abandoned by his mother. The film was shot in both Finnish and English.
