Ulama
In Islam, the ''ulama'' (; ar, علماء ', singular ', "scholar", literally "the learned ones", also spelled ''ulema''; feminine: ''alimah'' ingularand ''aalimath'' lural are the guardians, transmitters, and interpreters of religious knowledge in Islam, including Islamic doctrine and law. By longstanding tradition, ulama are educated in religious institutions ''(madrasas)''. The Quran and sunnah (authentic hadith) are the scriptural sources of traditional Islamic law. Traditional way of education Students do not associate themselves with a specific educational institution, but rather seek to join renowned teachers. By tradition, a scholar who has completed his studies is approved by his teacher. Fatima Al-Kabbaj
Fatima al-Kabbaj (Tamazight: ⴼⴰⵜⵉⵎⴰ ⵍⵇⴱⴱⴰⵊ) was one of the first female students to attend the University of al-Qarawiyyin. She later became the sole female member of the Moroccan Supreme Council of Religious Knowledge. Education Fatima al-Kabbaj began her education at ''Dar al-Faqiha,'' a traditional Moroccan Islamic school for girls'','' where she learnt Quran. Then, she moved to ''Madrasa al-Najah'' for her elementary studies. After finishing her studies, al-Kabbaj and her family realized that there were limited opportunities for higher studies for women. After several discussions and debates about the introduction of women to the University of al-Qarawiyyin, al-Kabbaj was admitted to the university along with nine other female students. Asma Lamrabet (Rabat, Morocco, 1961) is a Moroccan doctor, Islamic feminist, scholar and author. Personal life Asma Lamrabet was born in Rabat. She currently resides in Rabat, Morocco. She considers her education to be occidental. She is married with one child. Career Trained in medicine, she worked as a volunteer doctor in Spain and Latin America. She mainly worked in Chile and Mexico for eight years starting in (1995). She came into contact there with Liberation Theology, which caused her to examine her own religion. Abd Al-Aziz Al-Ghumari
Abd al-Aziz bin Muhammad bin al-Siddiq al-Ghumari ( ar, عبد العزيز بن الصديق; November 1920 in Tangier – November 6, 1997, in Tangier) was a Muslim scholar from Morocco. He is from the Idrissite branch of Moroccan Sayyids that trace themselves back to Idris I, who led a Shiite revolt against the Abbasid dynasty. Among practitioners of Sufism, he was sometimes referred to as "the Muhammad al-Bukhari of the modern era." Life Family Ben Sediq's father Sayyid Muhammad (b. 1887 d. November 6, 1935, in Tangier) was among prominent scholars such as his contemporary Sayyid al-Harrak. He used to teach the works of Ibn Abi Zayd and the book Sahih al-Bukhari. Ibrāhīm Niasse (1900–1975)—or french: Ibrahima Niasse, wo, Ibrayima Ñas, ar, شيخ الإسلام الحاج إبراهيم إبن الحاج عبد الله التجاني الكولخي ''Shaykh al-'Islām al-Ḥājj Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ḥājj ʿAbd Allāh at-Tijānī al-Kawlakhī'' —was a Senegalese major leader (wolof) of the Tijānī Sufi order of Islam in West Africa. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu
Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu (born 23 April 1919) is a Ghanaian Islamic cleric who currently serves as the Chief Imam of Ghana, as well as a member of the National Peace Council. He was first appointed as the Deputy Regional Chief Imam in 1974 after a lengthy discussions among tribal chiefs, academics, Islamic scholars, and religious personalities. During this period he deputized his cousin, Imam Muhammed Mukhtar Abbas, who succeeded his father. Ahmed Tijani Ben Omar ( ar, أحمد تيجاني بن عمر) is a Ghanaian born American Islamic scholar and Imam. Education Tijani was born in Accra, Ghana. Yusuf Karaan (also written as Yousuf Abdullah Karaan) (15 November 1935 - 10 May 2015) was a South African Sunni Muslim scholar from Strand who served as head mufti of Muslim Judicial Council.
