Carl Vinson
Carl Vinson (November 18, 1883 – June 1, 1981) was an American politician who served in the U.S. House of Representatives for over 50 years and was influential in the 20th century expansion of the U.S. Navy. Frank Crowther
Frank Crowther (July 10, 1870 – July 20, 1955) was a United States Representative from New York. Born in Liverpool, England, he emigrated to the United States in 1872 with his parents, who settled in Canton, Massachusetts. He attended the public schools, graduated from the Lowell School of Design (a branch of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in 1888 and was a designer of fabrics, carpets, and rugs for seven years. He graduated from the Harvard Dental School in 1898 and commenced practice in Boston; in 1901 he moved to Perth Amboy, New Jersey and continued the practice of dentistry. He was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly in 1904 and 1905 and a member of the Middlesex County Board of Taxation from 1906 to 1909. New York's 13th congressional district is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in New York City, represented by Adriano Espaillat. The district is the smallest congressional district by area in the U.S. The 13th district comprises Upper Manhattan and parts of the West Bronx. Harold Knutson (October 20, 1880 – August 21, 1953) was an American politician and journalist, who represented Minnesota in the United States House of Representatives from 1917 to 1949 as a member of the Republican Party. Texas's 18th congressional district of the United States House of Representatives includes much of inner city Houston and the surrounding area. It has been the Downtown Houston district since 1972. The current Representative from the 18th district is Sheila Jackson Lee. The 1938 United States House of Representatives elections was an election for the United States House of Representatives in 1938 which occurred in the middle of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's second term. Roosevelt's Democratic Party lost a net of 72 seats to the Republican Party, who also picked up seats from minor Progressive and Farmer–Labor Parties. Multiple factors contributed to the Democratic decline. One main reason was the Recession of 1937. Unemployment soared, undercutting the Democrats' claim that the New Deal had ended the Great Depression. Democrats fought among themselves, especially over Roosevelt's "Court Packing" plan.
