List Of Members Of The National Council Of Slovakia, 2020–2023
The National Council of Slovakia was elected at the 2020 Slovak parliamentary election and consisted of 150 representatives elected from party lists. Those elected will sat on the National Council until 2023. This parliament had to conduct some of its sessions during the summer of 2023 outside of the usual chamber for the first time since opening of the parliament building in 1994 (excluding ceremonial sessions) due to chamber renovations. These sessions were held in Bratislava Castle hippodrome. 2020 Slovak Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Slovakia on 29 February 2020 to elect all 150 members of the National Council. The anti-corruption list led by Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) movement emerged as the largest parliamentary group, winning 53 seats. The ruling coalition comprising Direction – Social Democracy (SMER–SD), the Slovak National Party (SNS), and Most–Híd (MH), led by Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini of SMER–SD, won only 38, with both the SNS and MH losing their parliamentary representation. It was the first time since the 2006 elections that SMER–SD did not emerge as the party with the most seats. As no party or electoral coalition won a majority of seats, a coalition government was needed. Slovak National Party
The Slovak National Party ( sk, Slovenská národná strana, SNS) is a nationalist political party in Slovakia. The party characterizes itself as a nationalist party based on both social and the European Christian values. Since 1990 SNS has won seats in every Slovak parliament but three (in 2002, 2012 and 2020) and has been part of the government from 2006 to 2010. Tomáš Taraba
Tomáš Taraba (born 13 February 1980) is a Slovak politician who has been serving as Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia and Minister of Environment in the Fourth cabinet of Robert Fico since 25 October 2023. With a previous business background, Taraba was elected to the National Council in 2020 on the list of neo-Nazi Kotlebists – People's Party Our Slovakia. From 2019 to 2023, he served as chairman of Life – National Party. Robert Fico
Robert Fico (; born 15 September 1964) is a Slovak politician who served as the prime minister of Slovakia from 2006 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2018 (when he resigned). He has been the first leader of the Direction – Social Democracy (SMER-SD) party since 1999. First elected to Parliament in 1992 (whilst within Czechoslovakia), he was later appointed to the Council of Europe. Marek Krajčí
Marek Krajčí (born 24 March 1974) is a Slovak politician. Krajčí served as deputy in the National Council (Slovakia), National Council from 2016 to 2020 for the Ordinary People and Independent Personalities. Following his resignation, he returned to the National Council (Slovakia), parliament. Amidst pressure from the public and rival political parties on 11 March 2021, he announced his intentions to resign as Minister of Health of Slovakia. Romana Tabak
Romana Tabak () or Romana Tabaková (; born 7 May 1991) is a Slovak politician and former professional tennis player. She is a former World Junior No. 36, achieving that ranking in March 2008. Her career-high ranking of World No. 240 was achieved on 27 February 2012. Eduard Heger (; born 3 May 1976) is a Slovak politician, serving as Prime Minister of Slovakia since 1 April 2021. He previously served as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the cabinet of Igor Matovič. Igor Matovič
Igor Matovič (born May 11, 1973) is a Slovak politician and former businessman. He previously served as Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia and Minister of Finance from April 2021 to December 2022 and Prime Minister from March 2020 to March 2021. Born in Trnava, he studied at Comenius University and went into the publishing business. Richard Sulík (; born 12 January 1968) is a Slovak politician, economist and businessman. He is the leader of the political party Freedom and Solidarity and served as Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Economy in Government of Slovakia led by Eduard Heger. Lucia Ďuriš Nicholsonová (; born 28 November 1976) is a Slovak politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019.
