Oran
Oran ( ar, وَهران, Wahrān) is a major coastal city located in the north-west of Algeria. It is considered the second most important city of Algeria after the capital Algiers, due to its population and commercial, industrial, and cultural importance. It is west-south-west from Algiers. The total population of the city was 803,329 in 2008, while the metropolitan area has a population of approximately 1,500,000 making it the second-largest city in Algeria. Etymology The word ''Wahran'' comes from the Berber expression ''wa - iharan'' (place of lions). A locally popular legend tells that in the period around AD 900, there were sightings of Barbary lion, Barbary lions in the area. The last two lions were killed on a mountain near Oran, and it became known as ''la montagne des lions'' ("The Mountain of Lions"). Pierre François Xavier Boyer
Pierre François Xavier Boyer (7 September 1772 – 11 July 1851) became a French division commander during the Napoleonic Wars. He joined a volunteer regiment in 1792. He fought in the Italian campaigns of the French Revolutionary Wars, Italian campaign of 1796 and participated in the French invasion of Egypt in 1798. He became a general of brigade in 1801 and took part in the Haitian Revolution, Expedition to Saint-Domingue in 1802. While sailing back to France he was captured by the British. After being exchanged, he fought at Battle of Jena, Jena and Battle of Pultusk, Pultusk in 1806, Battle of Friedland, Friedland in 1807 and Battle of Wagram, Wagram in 1809. Transferred to Spain, Boyer led a dragoon division at Battle of Salamanca, Salamanca and Battle of Venta del Pozo in 1812 and Battle of Vitoria, Vitoria in 1813. Jules Molle
Jules Molle (16 February 1868, Aubenas - 8 January 1931) was a Fascist French Algerian politician. He was the founder of the Unions latines political party, the mayor of Oran and the publisher of an Anti-Jewish newspaper, Le Petit Oranais, which ran for years with a swastika on its front and openly called for violence and persecution against Algerian Jews The History of the Jews in Algeria refers to the history of the Jewish community of Algeria, which dates to the 1st century CE. In the 15th century, many Spanish Jews fled to the Maghreb, including today's Algeria, following expulsion from Spai .... His victory in the 1921 mayoral election was followed by street violence against Jews. After he was arrested in the year 1925 on charges of incitement to violence, pro-Molle rioters attacked and pillaged the Jewish quarter in Oran. Jules Abadie
Jules Abadie (12 August 1876 – 10 August 1953) was a French politician and surgeon in Oran, French Algeria, acting as a member of the Comité Français de Libération Nationale (CFLN). Biography Jean Baptiste Marie Jules Abadie was born 12 August 1876 in Blaye, Gironde. Exempted from military service in 1896 for tuberculosis, Abadie volunteered as a medic during both World Wars, after which he was promoted to Colonel of the Reserves for his service. In 1901, Abadie started his career as a surgeon in Montpellier. In 1904, following the completion of a series of entrance exams, he moved to the Hospital of Oran, where he would become the chief surgeon. Abadie also ran a medical clinic in Maramar, where he worked with his wife who was also a doctor. His work as a researcher, particularly in the field of Gastric Surgery and Emergency war surgery, gained him fame in France and abroad. The People's Municipal Assembly (PMA; Arabic: ), is the political body governing the municipalities of Algeria. It is composed of an assembly (municipal council) elected on universal suffrage for five years.
