Bands Of America
Bands of America (BOA) is a music education advocacy organization and promoter of high school marching band competitions in the United States, such as the annual Grand National Championships. Established in 1975 as Marching Bands of America (MBA), founder Larry McCormick's goal was to provide educational opportunities for music students nationwide. McCormick organized the first annual Summer Workshop and Festival in 1976. Renamed Bands of America in 1984, the organization became an independent, tax-exempt entity in 1988. In 2006, Bands of America merged with the Music for All Foundation, a music education advocacy organization, becoming the flagship program of the combined organization. Bands of America has received numerous awards from International Festivals and Events Association, IFEA. Windsor Police Pipe Band
The Windsor Police Pipe Band is a Canadian pipe band organization based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The organization currently has two competing bands; one in grade 3 and another in grade 5. History Founded in 1967, the band has grown substantially over the decades. At one point, the organization consisted of 4 complete bands competing in various grades in Ontario and at the World Pipe Band Championships, however, that number has since dwindled down after the successive departure of 3 pipe majors in their grade 2 band (later promoted to grade 1) within a 6-year period and its subsequent folding. Western Mustang Band
The Western Mustang Band (WMB) is the marching band for the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. The band performs at every home football game for the Western Mustangs at TD Stadium in the fall term as well as other athletic events such as basketball and hockey games throughout the year. Its nickname is "The Pride of Western". The band today comprises brass, percussion, and woodwind instruments played by students from varying faculties on campus, and is led by a drum major. Other band activities include a variety of Santa Claus parades, Orientation week activities, and social events for the University and the community at large. Toronto Police Pipe Band
The Toronto Police Pipe Band is a Canadian pipe band organization based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada directly composed of a band in grade 2; and 5 through its youth affiliate, Ryan Russell Memorial. The band performs at parades, festivals, ceremonies and funerals on behalf of the Toronto Police Service, and participates internationally in piping competitions. History The Toronto Police Pipe Band was founded in 1912. The band was originally formed for local parades and events, and later participated in recruiting drives during World War I. The band was forced to temporarily halt operations soon after the start of World War II, and would not parade until 1960. Simon Fraser University Pipe Band
The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band is a grade one pipe band affiliated with Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. It is led by pipe major Alan Bevan and leading drummer J. Reid Maxwell. History The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band was originally formed by a group of students at Simon Fraser University in 1966. Brothers Terry and Jack Lee joined the Simon Fraser University band in 1981 after being approached by then-president of the University George Pedersen through Scottish soccer coach John Buchanan, who wanted to have a better quality band than the one that would form as necessary for events. Royal Military College Of Canada Bands
The Royal Military College of Canada Bands (also known as the RMC Band) is the official group of bands of the Royal Military College of Canada. The group is composed of four sections: the brass and reed, the pipes and drums, highland dancers, and choristers. Total band membership consists of 105 Officer Cadets from the college. Officer Cadets in the band practice three days a week in the morning on top of attending their individual full-time university programs. The RMC Band plays an active role in the college by providing the music for all parades and military functions, as well as athletic games and student events on the campus. In addition, the band has played provincially and nationally including the Oktoberfest celebration and parade in Kitchener-Waterloo and the Vanier Cup at Toronto's Skydome. Ceremonial Band Of The Waterloo Regional Police
The Ceremonial Band of the Waterloo Regional Police is a Canadian police band based in Waterloo, Ontario. It was founded in 1977 when the WRPS was four years old. Since 2010, the band has partnered with local high schools and post-secondary institutions in the Waterloo-Oxford area. It is currently the only military-style brass and reed band that is attached to a Canadian police service. Being an organizational band for the community, it participates in local community functions and Parades, as well as travels outaide the region to attend musical tattoos and concerts. It also takes responsibility for providing musical accompaniment for the ceremonial functions of the WRPS, including memorials and funerals of fallen police officers, award ceremonies and ceremonial inspections. The Carnival Band (Canadian Band)
The Carnival Band is a marching band and community orchestra based in the Commercial Drive area of East Vancouver, Canada. It is a part of the Activist Street Band movement, which is best known in the United States through the HONK! festivals. The band has a floating membership of around 100 members playing sax, brass, percussion and stringed instruments. It has appeared as a mobile unit for parades and as an amplified band with bass, fiddle, guitar and banjo. 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel) Pipe Band
The 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel) Pipe Band is a grade one pipe band formed in 1983 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. They work in conjunction with a re-enactor troop for the 78th (Highlanders) Regiment of Foot, the regiment that spent almost three years stationed at Citadel Hill (Fort George) (1869-1871). When the 78th Highlanders were in Halifax they had 21 drummers and 6 pipers. Today there are approximately 60 pipers and drummers. The band's Pipe Major is Alex Gandy and the lead drummer is Tom Cuming. History In the 1930s, the Halifax Police Department sponsored a fife and drum band, which was dissolved in 1939. After the war, some of its members joined, as teachers, the Queen Elizabeth High School Army Cadet Corps Pipe Band.
