Aging in dogs varies from breed to breed, and affects the dog's health and physical ability. As with humans, advanced years often bring changes in a dog's ability to hear, see, and move about easily. Skin condition, appetite, and energy levels often degrade with geriatric age, and medical conditions such as cancer, kidney failure, arthritis, dementia, and joint conditions, and other signs of old age may appear. The aging profile of dogs varies according to their adult size (often determined by their breed): smaller dogs often live over 15–16 years (the max is 20 years), medium and large size dogs typically 10 to 20 years, and some giant dog breeds such as mastiffs, often only 7 to 8 years. Max (American Dog)
Max (August 9, 1983 – May 18, 2013) was a beagle, dachshund, and terrier mix from Louisiana whose owner claimed had lived to 29 years and 282 days. His owner, Janelle Derouen, said she adopted him from a Louisiana sugar cane farmer in 1983. Life According to Max’s owner, he was adopted from a sugar cane farmer in 1983. His diet mostly consisted of dry dog food with some beef dog bones. It was reported in August 2009, that he only suffered from mild arthritis and cataracts. Max died of a tonic-clonic seizure on May 18, 2013 at a claimed age of 29 years and 282 days. According to veterinarians, his seizure was a result of his old age. Verification In 2009, '' The Telegraph'' reported that Max's owner had a veterinary birth certificate from 1983 that would have proved he was the oldest living dog at 26. Uncle Chichi
Uncle Chichi (c. 1985 - January 17, 2012) was the unofficial world's oldest dog from December 2011 until his death on January 17, 2012. Due to lost birth records, Chichi was not recognized by the ''Guinness Book of World Records''. Uncle ChiChi was adopted from the John Ancrum Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Charleston, South Carolina when he was between one and two years old. His owners tried to find veterinary documentation in 2010, but instead learned that the records had been purged. According to the Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital, where Chichi was examined in 2007, his birthdate was reported as January 15, 1988. The Golden Retriever is a Scottish breed of retriever dog of medium size. It is characterised by a gentle and affectionate nature and a striking golden coat. The American Eskimo Dog is a breed of companion dog, originating in Germany. The American Eskimo Dog is a member of the Spitz family.
