North Pyongan Province
North Pyongan Province (Phyŏnganbukto; , also spelled North P'yŏngan), is a western province of North Korea. The province was formed in 1896 from the northern half of the former P'yŏng'an Province, remained a province of Korea until 1945, then became a province of North Korea. Its capital is Sinŭiju. In 2002, Sinŭiju Special Administrative Region—near the city of Sinuiju—was established as a separately governed Special Administrative Region. Geography The Yalu River forms the northern border with China's Liaoning province. The province is also bordered on the east by Chagang Province and on the south by South Pyong'an Province. The Sinŭiju Special Administrative Region is located in the western corner of the province, and was created as an administrative entity separate from North Pyongan in 2002. Yongdae Gap ( ko, , , "Dragon-Terrace Cape") is a North Korean headland in the middle of the country's eastern coast along the Sea of Japan. It forms the southeastern corner of South Hamgyong's Tanchon and the western point of a narrow bay sheltering Songjin and Hwadae. Names In the 19th century, Yongdae Gap was known as or Schlippenback. During the Japanese occupation of Korea, it was known as . Geography Yongdae Gap is the southern point of a small peninsula whose most conspicuous summit is which rises to an elevation of about due north of the cape. The highest visible mountain from the point is which rises to an elevation of about farther NNW. Its range extends north from the cape. Kimchaek
Kimch'aek (), formerly Sŏngjin (Chosŏn'gŭl: 성진, Hancha: 城津), is a city in North Hamgyong Province, North Korea. It was an open port in 1899. It has a population of 207,699. Etymology The city received its current name in 1951 during the Korean War, in honor of the Korean People's Army (KPA) general, Kim Chaek. It was known as Jōshin during Japanese rule between 1910 and 1945. Climate Kimchaek has a hot-summer humid continental climate (Köppen climate classification: ''Dfb''). Chinnampo Lighthouse
Nampo (North Korean official spelling: Nampho; ), also spelled Namp'o, is the second largest city by population and an important seaport in North Korea, which lies on the northern shore of the Taedong River, 15 km east of the river's mouth. Formerly known as Chinnamp'o, it was a provincial-level "Directly Governed City" ("Chikhalsi") from 1980 to 2004, and was designated a Special cities of North Korea, "Special City" ("T'ŭkpyŏlsi", 특별시; 特別市) in 2010. Ŏrang County is a ''kun'', or county, in North Hamgyong Province, North Hamgyŏng province, North Korea. It is situated on the coast of the Sea of Japan (East Sea of Korea). Originally part of Kyongsong County, Kyŏngsŏng county, Ŏrang was created in 1952 following the division of Korea.
