Lighthouse
A lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of physical structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and to serve as a beacon for navigational aid, for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways. Lighthouses mark dangerous coastlines, hazardous shoals, reefs, rocks, and safe entries to harbors; they also assist in aerial navigation. Once widely used, the number of operational lighthouses has declined due to the expense of maintenance and has become uneconomical since the advent of much cheaper, more sophisticated and effective electronic navigational systems. Anseküla
Anseküla (german: Anseküll) is a village in Saaremaa Parish, Saare County, Estonia, on the island of Saaremaa. As of 2011 Census, the settlement's population was 39. The first church in Anseküla was built around 1300.History of the Anseküla church at (in Estonian) From 1846 to 1875, Martin Körber was the pastor in Anseküla. During Körber's tenure, the church was reconstructed in 1864. The rebuilt church was destroyed in 1944 during World War II. Paluküla Church
__NOTOC__ Paluküla Church is in Hiiumaa Parish, Hiiu County, Estonia in a woodland close to the road. The church was founded by the baronial family of Ungern-Sternberg in 1820. Until 1939, it was as branch church of the parish church in Kärdla. Paluküla church has been registered in the list of cultural monuments of Estonia since 1999 under number 23605. History There was no pastorate at Paluküla Church, it had 100 seats. The church was built in 1820 for the family of Baron Ungern-Sternberg as a cemetery church, however, due to the high groundwater level, it was not possible to build a burial crypts below ground level, so there is no graveyard near the church. In 1939, after the annexation of Hiiumaa island by the Soviet Union and its transformation into a military zone, the church was used as a warehouse for military equipment. Hiiu County
Hiiu County ( et, Hiiu maakond or ''Hiiumaa'') is one of 15 counties of Estonia, being the smallest county both in terms of area and population. It consists of Hiiumaa (German and sv, Dagö), the second largest island of Estonia, and several smaller islands near it. The county borders Lääne County to the east and Saare County to the south. History Human habitation of Hiiumaa can be traced back to the 5th millennium BC. Mesolithic sites in Kõpu peninsula are exemplified by the seal-hunters' settlements. Hiiumaa Parish ( Estonian: ''Hiiumaa vald'') is a rural municipality of Estonia on the island of Hiiumaa. Hiiumaa Parish was established by merging Emmaste Parish, Hiiu Parish, Käina Parish and Pühalepa Parish after the municipal elections held on 15 October 2017.
