Hatfield Island
Hatfield Island is a bar on the Guyandotte River at its confluence with Island Creek in Logan, West Virginia. Hatfield Island is home to Logan High School, and has been home to Logan High School since it was opened to students for the 1957–58 school year. The island was formerly known as Midelburg Island as it was owned at one point a Logan businessman, Ferdinand Midelburg, who operated a chain of theaters in WV and KY, including the Midelburg Theater on lower Stratton Street. Grape Island (West Virginia)
Grape Island is a island on the Ohio River in Pleasants County, West Virginia. The bar lies off the West Virginia coast from the communities of Grape Island and Spring Run. The island was so named after the wild grapevines which once covered the island. Grape Island is forested, predominantly with American sycamores. The island serves as a habitat for great blue heron, wood ducks, cormorants, Canada geese, and migrating loons and tundra swans. Fish Creek Island
Fish Creek Island is a 48-acre (19-hectare) island on the Ohio River in Marshall County, West Virginia, United States. The island is located across the river from Captina, West Virginia, south of Moundsville, and north of the mouth of Fish Creek, from which it takes its name. Previously owned by CONSOL Energy Inc., Fish Creek Island was donated by CONSOL to the Nature Conservancy to protect the island's habitat for its rare great blue herons. The bar is West Virginia's largest great blue heron rookery. The Nature Conservancy turned over Fish Creek Island to the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge which is now a protected island of the reserve.
