Kuwait is a country in the Middle East, bordering the Persian Gulf, between Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Kuwait is located at the far northwestern corner of the Persian Gulf. Umm Al Maradim Island
Umm al Maradim ()(''Translation: Mother of boulders'') is an island located at the extreme south of Kuwait's marine borders near the junction with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Umm Al-Maradim is surrounded by deep waters which enable ships to land directly at its shores - an advantage which is not available on most Kuwaiti islands. It is in length and in width, which represents an area of approximately . It is an oval-shaped island with a sand cape. Pearl oysters breed around the island's seabed. In the past, ships sailed for pearl diving in the morning and returned by night to the island. So the island was crowded with the ships' crews, divers and pearl traders who flocked to purchase the pearl harvest from the ships' captains. Umm Al-Maradim was the first Kuwaiti land to be liberated from the Invasion of Kuwait in 1991. Qaruh Island
Qaruh Island ( ar, جزيرة قاروه) is an island belonging to the state of Kuwait, which received its name from the large amounts of petroleum sediments in the area (known as ''Qar'' in Arabic). It is the smallest of the nine islands, and also the furthest island from the Kuwaiti mainland. Kubbar Island
Kubbar ( ar, جزيرة كبر) is a sandy island of Kuwait in the Persian Gulf, covered with shrub. It is located roughly 30 kilometers off the southern coast of Kuwait and 29 kilometres off the coast of Failaka. The island is nearly circular, with a diameter of 370 to 380 meters, corresponding to an area of about 11 ha. History Around six Iraqi soldiers killed in the Gulf War of 1991 lie buried on the island. Their graves are marked discreetly, in the Islamic manner. Environment Kubbar is sandy, with low coasts and sparsely vegetated. It is surrounded by coral reefs and is therefore popular with scuba divers. Shuwaikh Island
Shuwaikh Island ( ar, جزيرة الشويخ), also known as ''Akkaz Island'', is a former island of Kuwait within Kuwait Bay. The former island is now joined to Kuwait's Shuwaikh industrial area as an extension via land bridge and therefore no longer exists as an island. The area is an archaeological site with pieces dating back to 2000 BC spanning various civilizations such as the Parthian, Sassanid, Hellenistic, Seleucid, Dilmun, Nestorian Christian and Abbasid Caliphate. In 224 AD, Kuwait became part of the Sassanid Empire. At the time of the Sassanid Empire, Kuwait was known as ''Meshan'', which was an alternative name of the kingdom of Characene. Akkaz was a Partho-Sassanian site; the Sassanid religion's tower of silence was discovered in northern Akkaz.
