Incinerator
Incineration is a waste treatment process that involves the combustion of substances contained in waste materials. Industrial plants for waste incineration are commonly referred to as waste-to-energy facilities. Incineration and other high-temperature waste treatment systems are described as "thermal treatment". Incineration of waste materials converts the waste into ash, flue gas and heat. The ash is mostly formed by the inorganic constituents of the waste and may take the form of solid lumps or particulates carried by the flue gas. The flue gases must be cleaned of gaseous and particulate pollutants before they are dispersed into the atmosphere. In some cases, the heat that is generated by incineration can be used to generate electric power. Incineration with energy recovery is one of several waste-to-energy technologies such as gasification, pyrolysis and anaerobic digestion. While incineration and gasification technologies are similar in principle, the energy produced ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Leeds RERF
Leeds () is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Leeds district in West Yorkshire, England. It is built around the River Aire and is in the eastern foothills of the Pennines. It is also the third-largest settlement (by population) in England, after London and Birmingham. The city was a small manorial borough in the 13th century and a market town in the 16th century. It expanded by becoming a major production centre, including of carbonated water where it was invented in the 1760s, and trading centre (mainly with wool) for the 17th and 18th centuries. It was a major mill town during the Industrial Revolution. It was also known for its flax industry, iron foundries, engineering and printing, as well as shopping, with several surviving Victorian era arcades, such as Kirkgate Market. City status was awarded in 1893, a populous urban centre formed in the following century which absorbed surrounding villages and overtook the nearby York population. It is located ab ... Lakeside EfW
The Lakeside EfW is located in Colnbrook, Slough, and is the largest facility of its kind in England. It incinerates residual waste, and since 2010 it has also been authorised to incinerate low-level radioactive waste. Ownership The Lakeside EfW is run by Lakeside Energy from Waste Ltd, which is a joint venture between Grundon Waste Management and Viridor. The energy-from-waste facility was established at a cost of £160 million and was officially opened by the Duke of Edinburgh on 27 October 2010. Capacity It is capable of processing 410,000 tonnes of residual waste annually and generating 37MW of electricity, enough to power the borough of Slough. Possible relocation In 2014, expansion plans for London's Heathrow Airport Heathrow Airport (), called ''London Airport'' until 1966 and now known as London Heathrow , is a major international airport in London, England. La Collette Power Station
La Collette Power Station is the main power station for Jersey, and is now the main control centre for the Channel Islands Electricity Grid. It is operated by Jersey Electricity (JE). Under normal circumstances the power generation facilities served as an emergency supply in case of power interruption, however the failure of undersea cables in 2012 temporarily returned La Collette's role to full-time generation. The States of Jersey's waste-to-energy incinerator was built next to La Collette and shares its water supply and chimney. History The power station was commissioned in 1966 to relieve Queen’s Road, which by then was struggling to keep up with demand. It was initially based on Mirrlees diesel engines and Parsons steam turbines. In 1991 two Sulzer 16ZA40S diesel engines were installed replacing the older Mirrlees engines. In 2012 the last Mirrlees 5MW diesel engines were decommissioned and replaced by two newer and more efficient 11MW Sulzer engines. In 1985 a 55MW supp ... Kirklees EfW
The Kirklees EfW is a major moving grate incineration plant in Huddersfield, Kirklees, England. The incinerator is owned and operated by Suez Recycling and Recovery UK who signed a 25-year contract with Kirklees Council in 1998 with an option to increase the time period to 2028. The plant is integral to the waste strategy and Unitary Development plan of Kirklees Council, treating of locally generated municipal waste, which when incinerated, will produce enough electricity to power 15,000 homes. Only of waste is actually incinerated, the other tonnages permitted are recovered materials such as metals (for recycling) and Incinerator bottom ash (IBA) and Fly ash Fly ash, flue ash, coal ash, or pulverised fuel ash (in the UK) plurale tantum: coal combustion residuals (CCRs)is a coal combustion product that is composed of the particulates (fine particles of burned fuel) that are driven out of coal-fired .... Isle Of Wight Gasification Facility
The Isle of Wight gasification facility is a municipal waste treatment plant in southern England. It entered the commissioning phase in autumn 2008, and will be replaced by a new moving grate incinerator in 2019 The facility has been funded as part of Defra's New Technologies Demonstrator Programme and is one of the first and only facilities in the United Kingdom to be classed as a gasification system employed for the combustion of refuse derived fuel originating from municipal waste. The plant is operated by Waste Gas Technology UK Ltd, part of thENER·G group and utilises the Energos technology; Energos is also part of the ENER·G group. The Energos system was retrofitted into a small conventional incinerator plant and combust an estimated 30,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel per year. Originally estimated at £8 million, the retrofit cost £10 million to commission, £2.7 million of which was funded by DEFRA. The plant is sited at Forest Road, Newport. Temporary suspension of ... Isle Of Man Incinerator
The Isle of Man Incinerator was designed by Savage & Chadwick Architects and has an unusual shape and design, the flue gas stack, stack of which is designed to represent a Viking sail. Suez Recycling and Recovery UK, SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK was awarded the contract to design, build and operate the incinerator by the Isle of Man Government. The incinerator is located on an old disused landfill and has a capacity to treat 60,000 tonnes of municipal waste, in addition to clinical waste, clinical and animal by-products, animal waste. In order to accomplish this, the facility actually incorporates two separate incinerators. The facility uses Incineration#Fixed or moving grate combustion, moving grate technology. In popular culture The incinerator was used as a location in the filming of the 2006 film ''Stormbreaker (film), Stormbreaker''.
