Incineration is a waste treatment process that involves the combustion of substances contained in waste materials. Industrial plants for waste incineration are commonly referred to as waste-to-energy facilities. Incineration and other high-temperature waste treatment systems are described as "thermal treatment". Incineration of waste materials converts the waste into ash, flue gas and heat. Ferrybridge is a village in West Yorkshire, England. Ferrybridge lies at a historically important crossing of the River Aire which borders the North Yorkshire village of Brotherton. The Lakeside EfW is located in Colnbrook, Slough, and is the largest facility of its kind in England. It incinerates residual waste, and since 2010 it has also been authorised to incinerate low-level radioactive waste. La Collette Power Station
La Collette Power Station is the main power station for Jersey, and is now the main control centre for the Channel Islands Electricity Grid. It is operated by Jersey Electricity (JE). Under normal circumstances the power generation facilities served as an emergency supply in case of power interruption, however the failure of undersea cables in 2012 temporarily returned La Collette's role to full-time generation. The incinerator is owned and operated by Suez Recycling and Recovery UK who signed a 25-year contract with Kirklees Council in 1998 with an option to increase the time period to 2028. Isle Of Wight Gasification Facility
The Isle of Wight gasification facility is a municipal waste treatment plant in southern England. It entered the commissioning phase in autumn 2008, and will be replaced by a new moving grate incinerator in 2019 The facility has been funded as part of Defra's New Technologies Demonstrator Programme and is one of the first and only facilities in the United Kingdom to be classed as a gasification system employed for the combustion of refuse derived fuel originating from municipal waste. Isle Of Man Incinerator
The Isle of Man Incinerator was designed by Savage & Chadwick Architects and has an unusual shape and design, the flue gas stack, stack of which is designed to represent a Viking sail. Suez Recycling and Recovery UK, SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK was awarded the contract to design, build and operate the incinerator by the Isle of Man Government. The incinerator is located on an old disused landfill and has a capacity to treat 60,000 tonnes of municipal waste, in addition to clinical waste, clinical and animal by-products, animal waste. In order to accomplish this, the facility actually incorporates two separate incinerators. The facility uses Incineration#Fixed or moving grate combustion, moving grate technology.
