Guzheng
The zheng () or gu zheng (), is a Chinese plucked zither. The modern guzheng commonly has 21, 25, or 26 strings, is long, and is tuned in a major pentatonic scale. It has a large, resonant soundboard made from ''Paulownia'' wood. Other components are often made from other woods for structural or decorative reasons. Guzheng players often wear fingerpick made from materials such as plastic, resin, tortoiseshell, or ivory on one or both hands. Strings There are nylon steel strings, steel strings, silk strings, etc., depending on the genre. Now, the most common guzheng is 21 strings guzheng. The high-pitched strings of the guzheng are close to the player, and the low-pitched strings are on the opposite side. The strings' order from the inside to the outside is 1 to 21. Fiona Sze-Lorrain (born 1980) is a French writer, musician, poet, literary translator, and editor. Early life and education Born in Singapore, Sze-Lorrain grew up trilingual and has lived mostly in Paris and New York City. She spent her childhood in a hybrid of cultures, and her formative years in the United States and France. She began studying piano, classical piano and guzheng at a young age. A graduate of Columbia University, she obtained her master's degree from New York University and attended the École Normale de Musique de Paris before earning a PhD in French language, French from the Paris-Sorbonne University. Work Sze-Lorrain's work involves fiction, poetry, translation, music, and the visual arts. She writes mainly in English, and translates from Chinese and French. Zou Lunlun
Zou Lunlun () is a player and teacher of the guzheng, a Chinese zither. She is fourth-generation guzheng player in a family of musicians. She has performed concerts in Vienna and Sydney, and performed for China's President Jiang Zemin and Australian Prime Minister John Howard. While she lived in Australia, Lunlun established a Chinese traditional music group, "3 Sisters", with pipa player (Lulu Liu), and erhu player (Yingying Liu). Wu Fei (, born May 12, 1977) is a virtuoso Chinese American composer, performer, and improviser from Beijing, China. She performs on the Chinese guzheng, an ancient zither with twenty-one strings, as well as sings. She currently resides in Nashville. Wu Fei has composed for a variety of musical genres, including choir, string quartet, chamber ensemble, Balinese gamelan, orchestral, film, and modern dance. Life Born in Beijing, Wu Fei studied at the China Conservatory of Music until 2000. She continued her education at Mills College where she earned a M.A. in Composition (2002–04). Andreas Vollenweider (born 4 October 1953) is a Swiss harpist. He is generally categorised as a new-age musician and uses a modified electroacoustic harp of his own design.
