Landeshauptmann (if male) or Landeshauptfrau (if female) (, "state captain", plural ''Landeshauptleute'') is the chairman of a state government and the supreme official of an Austrian state and the Italian autonomous provinces of South Tyrol and Trentino. Austria under Nazism describes the period of Austrian history from 12 March 1938 when Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany (the event is commonly known as ''Anschluss'') until 8 May 1945 with the fall of Nazi Germany. Austrians were generally enthusiastic supporters of union with Germany. Throughout World War II, 950,000 Austrians fought for Nazi Germany's armed forces. Hermann Schützenhöfer
Hermann Schützenhöfer (; born 29 February 1952) was governor of the Austrian province Styria from 2015 until 2022 and chairman of the Styrian People's Party (STVP/ÖVP) from 2006 until 2022. Personal life Schützenhöfer grew up in Edlitz in Lower Austria. In 1966, Schützenhöfer's family moved back to Kirchbach in Styria, where Schützenhöfer completed compulsory school with the polytechnical year. He became an apprentice in a grocery store and wrote articles as a local journalist for the ''Kleine Zeitung'', the ''Sonntagspost'' and the Styrian youth magazine ''Horizont'' (= "Horizon" - a media organ of the Junge Volkspartei). He is married to Marianne, and has two grown-up children. Franz Voves
Franz Voves (born 28 February 1953 in Graz, Styria, Austria) is an Austrian politician of the SPÖ and a former player in the Austrian ice hockey national team. From 25 October 2005 to 16 June 2015 he has been governor of Styria (Landeshauptmann der Steiermark). He was vice-governor of Styria from 12 March 2002 till 24 October 2005. Waltraud Klasnic
Waltraud Klasnic (née Tschiltsch, born 27 October 1945) is an Austrian politician who was (governor) of Styria from 1996 until 2005. Politics Klasnic joined the women's organisation of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) in 1970. She was appointed to the Federal Council in 1977, remaining a member until 1981 when she was elected to the Styrian Landtag. After the previous of Styria Josef Krainer junior resigned due to a disappointing election performance, Klasnic was elected as his successor by the Landtag on 23 January 1996. She was the first, and at the time only, female governor of any Austrian state. Following a loss in the October 2005 Styrian state election Klasnic resigned from the state government. Originally she intended to remain chairperson of the ÖVP in Styria, but lack of support forced her to relinquish this position as well. The Austrian People's Party (german: Österreichische Volkspartei , ÖVP ) is a Christian-democratic and liberal-conservative political party in Austria. Since December 2021, the party has been led provisionally by Karl Nehammer. Siegfried Uiberreither (29 March 1908 – 29 December 1984) was an Austrian Nazi ''Gauleiter'' and ''Reichsstatthalter'' of the Reichsgau Styria during the Third Reich. Early life Born in Salzburg, he was the son of an engineer named Josef Überreither. The family name was officially changed to Uiberreither in June 1933. Uiberreither attended volksschule and realschule in Salzburg, and in 1924 joined the Schill Youth (''Schilljugend''), a right-wing youth organization founded by Gerhard Roßbach.
