General Aviation
General aviation (GA) is defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as all civil aviation aircraft operations with the exception of commercial air transport or aerial work, which is defined as specialized aviation services for other purposes. However, for statistical purposes ICAO uses a definition of general aviation which includes aerial work. General aviation thus represents the "private transport" and recreational components of aviation. Air Auckland (formerly Flight Hauraki) is a small airline based at Ardmore Airport in New Zealand. The company is a fixed-wing and CAA part 135 air operator that offers flight services including regular flights to Whitianga and Great Barrier Island. History Flight Hauraki Limited was founded on 17 March 2008 as an associate company of MDR Aviation Ltd, a company specialising in aircraft leases and imports. In 2010 Flight Hauraki began operations with a charter and sightseeing service based out of the Salt Air terminal at North Shore Aerodrome. Woodbourne Airport trading as Marlborough Airport is a small, controlled airport located 8 km west of Blenheim in the Marlborough region of New Zealand, on , Middle Renwick Road. It is co-located with RNZAF Base Woodbourne in the Wairau Valley on the north-eastern corner of the South Island of New Zealand. The airport has a single terminal and 7 tarmac gates. History Woodbourne was one of the first airports in New Zealand. Today it is one of the few remaining air force bases (RNZAF Base Woodbourne) with general maintenance and initial training conducted there. It serves as the civil airport for Blenheim. Milford Sound Airport is a small but very busy (in terms of flight movements) airport in Milford Sound, in New Zealand's Fiordland region of the South Island. Mainland Air is a general aviation, flight training and air charter company operating out of Dunedin International Airport in New Zealand. History Mainland Air was established in 1991 by Queenstown businessman Christopher Kelliher. From 1995 to 2006 the airline operated courier flights for New Zealand Post between Dunedin and Christchurch. Later in 2007 the airline started a thrice weekly Dunedin to Alexandra and Queenstown service using a ten-seater Piper Chieftain. In March 2008 Mainland started a thrice weekly Dunedin to Invercargill service also using its Piper Chieftain aircraft. At that time Mainland were also considering services to Wanaka and Te Anau. Tauranga Airport is an airport serving the city of Tauranga, New Zealand. It is located adjacent to Tauranga Harbour in the suburb of Mount Maunganui, approximately 3 km northeast of Tauranga CBD. The terminal is located to the north of the runway, on Jean Batten Drive, and consists of a two-storey building with four tarmac gates. Island Air Charters is an air charter company based in Tauranga, New Zealand. The company is owned by Paul Ensor and offers charter services around the Bay of Plenty using Cessna light aircraft. History The airline commenced in August 1995 when its owner, Paul Ensor, acquired a Cessna P206 Super Skylane. In November 1996 a Cessna TU206A was added to the fleet.
