Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. The crescent-shaped roof extending past the edge of the stadium is meant to evoke images of Date Masamune, a ''daimyō'' of Mutsu Province, which included the present-day Miyagi Prefecture. From 1 April 2014, the stadium was known as the , named after the main variety of rice produced in the prefecture, as the naming rights were acquired by the Miyagi Prefecture headquarters of Zen-Noh.
