Pays de la Loire (; ; br, Broioù al Liger) is one of the 18 regions of France, in the west of the mainland. It was created in the 1950s to serve as a zone of influence for its capital, Nantes, one of a handful of "balancing metropolises" (). Geography Pays de la Loire is in western France, bordered by Brittany on the northwest, Normandy on the north, Centre-Val de Loire on the east, Nouvelle-Aquitaine on the south, and the Bay of Biscay of the North Atlantic Ocean on the southwest. Departments and former province Pays de la Loire comprises five departments: Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, Sarthe, Vendée. The Société française de vexillologie (''French Society of Vexillology''), or SFV, is a free, non-profit association of vexillology and heraldry enthusiasts of France. The centre aims principally at promoting the study of the history, symbolism and usage of flags, and preserving related documents. It was founded in 1985 in Paris and is a FIAV member since 1991. Pays De Retz
The Pays de Retz (; br, Bro-Raez, link=no; ) is a historical subregion of France that currently forms part of the Loire-Atlantique department, but which previously formed part of the Duchy of Brittany. The area lies between the southern shore of the Loire estuary and the '' Marais breton'' (Breton marshlands), bordered to the west by the ''Baie de Bourgneuf'' (Bourgneuf Bay) and on the east by the ''Lac de Grand-Lieu'' (Grand-Lieu Lake) and a network of small rivers. Saint-Nazaire (; ; Gallo: ''Saint-Nazère/Saint-Nazaer'') is a commune in the Loire-Atlantique department in western France, in traditional Brittany. The inhabitants are referred to as ''Guérandais'' (masculine), and ''Guérandaise'' (feminine).
