Will Vinton
William Gale Vinton (November 17, 1947 – October 4, 2018) was an American animator and filmmaker. Vinton was best known for his Claymation work, alongside creating iconic characters such as The California Raisins. He won an Oscar for his work alongside several Emmy Awards and Clio Awards for his studio's work. Life and education Vinton was born on November 17, 1947, to a car dealer father and a bookkeeper mother in McMinnville, Oregon. During the 1960s, Vinton studied physics, architecture and filmmaking at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was influenced by the work of Antoni Gaudí. During this time, Vinton made a black-and-white feature-length documentary film about the California counter-culture movement titled ''Gone for a Better Deal'', which toured college campuses in various film festivals of the time. ''Closed Mondays'' is an eight-minute clay animation film, created by Bob Gardiner and filmed by Will Vinton in 1974. It was produced by Lighthouse Productions, released by Pyramid Films in the United States, and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1975. Plot The film opens with the words "CLOSED MONDAYS" written in white against a black background, filling the screen. Using a pull-back shot, the camera then shows the viewer that the words are part of a sign that reads: A version of the film released on home video blacks out the "USUAL CRAP" part of the sign. It is night. A small art gallery stands with its door slightly ajar and the lights on. A bulbous-nosed man with thinning grey hair, holding a brown bottle and apparently drunk, wanders in. Eli Noyes
Eli Noyes (born October 18, 1942 in Amherst, Massachusetts) is an American animator most noted for his stop animation work using clay and sand. Early life Eliot Fette Noyes, Jr. was born the son of noted " Harvard Five" architect Eliot Noyes and his wife, interior designer Molly Duncan Weed Noyes. He is the brother of Fred Noyes. He graduated from Harvard University in 1964. Career In 1964, Noyes created the animated film ''Clay'' or ''Origin of the Species'' which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. The film is considered one of the earliest examples of clay stop-animation and is cited by Wallace and Gromit creators, Peter Lord and David Sproxton as a large influence on their work. Noyes is also noted for his creation of the Sand Alphabet for ''Sesame Street'' and the Nickelodeon children's television series, ''Eureeka's Castle''. Sam Fell
Samuel Jason Fell (born 22 November 1965) is a British animator, director, screenwriter and voice actor. Sam started his career as director on the short film ''The Big Cheese'' for 3 Peach Animation. He then joined Aardman Animations and worked on projects like ''Pop'', Peter Lord's Oscar-nominated short film ''Wat's Pig'', as well as ''Rex the Runt'', before directing the 2002 project ''Chump''. He also developed a children's TV series called ''Rabbits!''. In 2001, he came up with the story of ''Flushed Away'' which he developed through 2002. From 2003, he went on to direct (with David Bowers) the film for Aardman. He also provided the voices for the characters Liam, The Prophet, Ladykiller and Fanseller. ''Baby Snakes'' is a film which includes footage from Frank Zappa's 1977 Halloween concert at New York City's Palladium Theater, backstage antics from the crew, and stop motion clay animation from award-winning animator Bruce Bickford. Release Initially, the film had particular difficulty finding a distributor. Zappa tried to interest United Artists, the company that released ''200 Motels'', but they declined. Other studios followed United Artists' lead, fearing that Zappa's "cinematic style" had lost considerable appeal in 1970s pop culture, and also declined to distribute the film.
