This is a list of female judges of the Supreme Court of India, the highest court in the Republic of India. The list is ordered according to chronology. The first female justice in the court was Fathima Beevi appointed on 6 October 1989. There have been 11 female justices in the court since then. Presently there is 3 sitting female judges out of the total 34 judges (including Chief Justice of India) in the court. Gujarat High Court
The Gujarat High Court is the High Court of the state of Gujarat. It was established on 1 May 1960 under the ''Bombay Re-organisation Act, 1960'' after the state of Gujarat split from Bombay State. The seat of the court is Ahmedabad. The present strength of the Gujarat High court is 27 against sanctioned strength of 52. Establishment This High Court was established on 1 May 1960 as a result of bifurcation of the former State of Bombay into two States of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The High Court started functioning near Akashwani, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad. The High Court had later shifted to the new building at Sarkhej - Gandhinagar Highway, Sola, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from 16 January 1999. Bela Madhurya Trivedi (born on 10 June 1960) is a judge of the Supreme Court of India. She had previously been a judge of the Gujarat High Court from 2016 to 2021. She formerly served as the additional judge of the Gujarat High Court from 17 February 2011 to 27 June 2011 and later served as the additional judge of the Rajasthan High Court. Telangana High Court
The Telangana High Court is the High Court for the Indian state of Telangana. Founded by the 7th Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan, initially, it was set up as High Court of Hyderabad for the then Princely State of Hyderabad Deccan and later renamed High Court of Andhra Pradesh, as it was set up on 5 November 1956 under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956.The Andhra Pradesh High Court was renamed as High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad in view of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh state. Hima Kohli (born 2 September 1959) is a judge of the Supreme Court of India. She was the chief justice of the Telangana High Court, and the first woman judge to hold that office. Prior to that, she served as a judge of the Delhi High Court. Life and education Kohli was born on 2 September 1959 in New Delhi. She did her schooling at St. Thomas' School. In 1979, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. She later went on to earn a postgraduate degree in history from the University of Delhi, and a degree in law from the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi. Madras High Court
The Madras High Court is a High Court in India. It has appellate jurisdiction over the state of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry. It is located in Chennai, and is the third oldest high court of India after the Calcutta High Court in Kolkata and Bombay High Court in Mumbai. The Madras High Court is one of three high courts of colonial India established in the three Presidency Towns of Madras, Bombay and Calcutta by letters patent granted by Queen Victoria, dated 26 June 1862. Indira Banerjee
Indira Banerjee (born 24 September 1957) is a former judge of the Supreme Court of India and the eighth female judge in history of Supreme Court. Previously, she served as chief justice of the Madras High Court, the second woman to hold the position in India. Early life Indira Banerjee was born on 24 September 1957. She started her education at the Loreto House in Kolkata. She pursued higher education at the Presidency University, Kolkata and the Department of Law, University of Calcutta. She was enrolled as an advocate on 5 July 1985 and practised before the Calcutta High Court. Bar Council Of India
The Bar Council of India is a statutory body established under the section 4 of Advocates Act 1961 that regulates the legal practice and legal education in India. Its members are elected from amongst the lawyers in India and as such represents the Indian bar.
