History The ''Michelin Guide'' was first published in 1900 in France, to promote driving. In 1926, it began to specialise in fine dining reviews, introducing a single star system. The current three star system began in 1931, although three stars were not awarded until the 1933 edition. The first women chef to hold a Michelin star was Élisa Blanc in 1929. The first women chefs to hold three Michelin stars came in that 1933 edition, namely Eugénie Brazier and Marie Bourgeois, although Brazier won three stars at both of her La Mère Brazier restaurants in Lyon and at Col de la Luère. She held all six for 20 years, and her record for holding the most stars stood until beaten by Alain Ducasse in 1998. It then stood as the record for a female chef, until Carme Ruscalleda won her seventh star across several restaurants. The Michelin Guides ( ) are a series of guide books that have been published by the French tyre company Michelin since 1900. The Guide awards up to three Michelin star (classification), stars for excellence to a select few establishments. Elena Arzak
Elena Arzak (born 4 July 1969) is a Basque chef. She is joint head chef of three Michelin starred restaurant Arzak alongside her father, Juan Mari Arzak, and was named best Female Chef in the World in 2012. Biography She first started working at her family's restaurant, Arzak, at the age of 11, becoming the fourth generation of her family to work there. She would work two hours a day during the summer holidays from school. At the time her grandmother was the head chef. Her father is Juan Mari Arzak, who initially worked under his mother at the restaurant, but went on to become head chef himself. Her father sent her abroad to train at other restaurants after she attended hotel school in Lucerne in Switzerland. Garima Arora
Garima Arora is an Indian chef. In November 2018, she became the first Indian woman to win a Michelin star. Early life and career Arora grew up in Mumbai, and is of Punjabi Arora family. She initially pursued a career in journalism before becoming a chef. In 2008, she left for France. She studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and graduated in 2010.
