Sinn Féin
Sinn Féin ( ; ; ) is an Irish republican and democratic socialist political party active in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The History of Sinn Féin, original Sinn Féin organisation was founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith. Its members founded the revolutionary Irish Republic and its parliament, the First Dáil, and many of them were active in the Irish War of Independence, during which the party was associated with the Irish Republican Army (1919–1922). The party split before the Irish Civil War and again in its aftermath, giving rise to the two traditionally dominant parties of Irish politics: Fianna Fáil, and Cumann na nGaedheal (which merged with smaller groups to form Fine Gael). Aengus Ó Snodaigh
Aengus Ó Snodaigh (; born 31 July 1964) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician, author and historian who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South-Central constituency since the 2002 general election. Early and personal life A Dubliner and Irish language speaker, he attended school at Scoil Lorcáin and Coláiste Eoin, before studying at University College Dublin (UCD). Ó Snodaigh joined Sinn Féin while at university, where he was active in student politics, in 1983. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in History and Geography, and a Higher Diploma in Education. Having secured his teaching qualifications, he went on to teach at secondary level and as a literacy teacher in Dublin's inner city. He is also the editor of ''Fealsúnacht, Feall agus Fuil'' which is a collection of historical essays concentrating on the 1798 Rebellion and several pamphlets on aspects of Irish republican history. Pádraig Mac Lochlainn
Pádraig Mac Lochlainn (; born 12 June 1973) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Donegal constituency since the 2020 general election, and previously from 2011 to 2016 for the Donegal North-East constituency. He previously served as a Senator for the Industrial and Commercial Panel from 2016 to 2020. Early and personal life Mac Lochlainn was born in Leeds, England, on 12 June 1973. The son of two Irish parents, Réamonn and Mary Mac Lochlainn. He is their only child. His father was a Provisional IRA volunteer who spent nine and a half years imprisoned in jails across England. After his release in 1984, his father wrote a book about his prison experience called "Inside an English Jail", which was published posthumously in 1987 under the name of Raymond McLaughlin. Cork South-Central is a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. The constituency elects five deputies ( Teachtaí Dála, commonly known as TDs) on the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). History and boundaries The constituency was created under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1980 and first used at the 1981 general election, taking in parts of the former Cork City and Cork Mid constituencies. It is a mixed urban-rural constituency encompassing the south of Cork City, county towns and a rural hinterland. Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire (; born 8 February 1989) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork South-Central constituency since the 2016 general election. Ó Laoghaire is from Togher, Cork. As a youth, he was a member of the local Scouting Ireland group, the 37th Cork (Togher), before going on to be an adult volunteer in the Scout group in The Lough. He attended University College Cork (UCC) and graduated with a law degree. While in UCC, he joined Sinn Féin's youth wing Ógra Shinn Féin, eventually taking a year out to work as an organiser for Ógra. He then worked as a parliamentary assistant for Sinn Féin politicians David Cullinane, Trevor Ó Clochartaigh and Sandra McLellan. Thomas Gould (born July 1968) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork North-Central constituency since the 2020 general election. Political career He was a member of Cork City Council, originally for the Cork City North Central area in 2009 and for the Cork City North West local electoral area from 2019. Gould was a candidate in the 2016 general election in Cork North-Central but was not elected. He was a candidate in the 2019 Cork North-Central by-election but was not elected. Pauline Tully
Pauline Tully (formerly Pauline Tully-McAuley; born 1970/1971) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a senator for the Cultural and Educational Panel since January 2025. She was previously a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cavan–Monaghan constituency from 2020 to 2024. She was a member of Cavan County Council for the Ballyjamesduff local electoral area from the 1999 election until 2012. Early and personal life Tully grew up on a farm in Kilnaleck, County Cavan, where she still lives. She teaches history at Breifne College. Matthew Carthy (born 19 July 1977) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cavan–Monaghan constituency since the 2020 general election. He previously served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Midlands–North-West constituency from 2014 to 2020. Early and personal life Carthy was born in Birmingham, England, in 1977.
