Captain (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, the captain is the player designated by a team as the only person authorized to speak with the game officials regarding rule interpretations when the captain is on the ice. At most levels of play each team must designate one captain and a number of alternate captains (usually two or three) who speak to the officials when the captain is on the bench. Captains wear a "C" on their sweaters, while alternate captains wear an "A". Officially captains have no other responsibility or authority, although they may, depending on the league or individual team, have various informal duties, such as participation in pre-game ceremonies or other events outside the game. The Charlotte Checkers are a minor-league professional ice hockey team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Brian Lashoff (born July 16, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman currently playing as captain for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League (AHL). He has previously played with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career As a youth, Lashoff played in the 2003 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the New York Rangers minor ice hockey team. Undrafted, Lashoff played major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts and Kingston Frontenacs. On October 1, 2008 he was signed to an entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings organization following their 2008 training camp. The Grand Rapids Griffins are a professional ice hockey, hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and play home games at Van Andel Arena. They are the AHL affiliate to the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and are the 2013 Calder Cup playoffs, 2013 and 2017 Calder Cup playoffs, 2017 Calder Cup champions. Jayson Megna (born February 1, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Megna was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but grew up in Northbrook, Illinois. Playing career As a youth, Megna played in the 2003 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Chicago Young Americans minor ice hockey team. The Colorado Eagles are a professional minor league ice hockey team based in Loveland, Colorado. The Eagles play in the Pacific Division of the American Hockey League. The Eagles were founded as an expansion franchise in 2003 in the Central Hockey League and remained in the league until June 2011, when they joined the ECHL. Maxwell McCormick (born May 1, 1992) is an American professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing as captain of the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). McCormick was selected 171st overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. The Coachella Valley Firebirds are a professional ice hockey expansion team based in Thousand Palms, California, that began play in the 2022–23 American Hockey League (AHL) season. Dillon Simpson (born February 10, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently playing under contract to the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Cleveland Monsters are a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL). Maxime Lajoie (born November 5, 1997) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player currently with the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL).
