This is a list of credit unions in the United States. A credit union is a member-owned financial cooperative, democratically controlled by its members, and operated for the purpose of promoting thrift, providing credit at competitive rates, and providing other financial services to its members. Credit unions in the United States may either be chartered by the federal government or a state government. The National Credit Union Administration is the U.S. independent federal agency that supervises and charters federal credit unions. As of December 31, 2022, there were 4,760 federally insured credit unions in the United States with 135.3 million members. A credit union, a type of financial institution similar to a commercial bank, is a member-owned nonprofit organization, nonprofit financial cooperative. Credit unions generally provide services to members similar to retail banks, including deposit accounts, provision of Credit (finance), credit, and other financial services. In several African countries, credit unions are commonly referred to as SACCOs (Savings and Credit Co-Operative Societies). Worldwide, credit union systems vary significantly in their total assets and average institution asset size, ranging from volunteer operations with a handful of members to institutions with hundreds of thousands of members and assets worth billions of US dollars. California Credit Union (CCU), previously known as the Los Angeles Teachers Credit Union, is a state-chartered credit union in Southern California that focuses on providing financial services to residents of three Southern California counties as well as teachers and others in the education community. it was the 14th largest credit union by asset size in California with $3 billion in assets and 24 branches. Cascade Community Federal Credit Union
Cascade Community Federal Credit Union is a credit union in Roseburg, Oregon. On December 31, 2002, the credit union was established through the merger of Dougco Schools Federal Credit Union and Western Cascade Federal Credit Union. History Dougco Schools opened in 1948 as a school employees credit union, and Western Cascade was established in 1958 to serve county, city and state employees. In 1978 Kay Bjornson became the CEO of Dougco Schools FCU, and continued as CEO of CCFCU until 2005. Beulah Federal Credit Union is a faith based financial institution that is owned and operated by the Beulah Church of the Nazarene in Brooklyn, New York. It received its charter from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) on October 19, 2007, with the mission to serve the church's 933 members. It also received NCUA low-income designation, which enables it to accept deposits from non-members and to qualify for loans and technical assistance through the NCUA Community Development Revolving Loan Fund Program.
