Adelaide ( ) is the capital city of South Australia, the state's largest city and the fifth-most populous city in Australia. Islington Works Railway Station, Adelaide
Islington Works railway station was located on the Gawler railway line located in the inner northern Adelaide suburbs of Regency Park and Kilburn to serve the adjacent Islington Railway Workshops. It is located from Adelaide station, but is now closed, along with the workshop. Both platforms are 50 metres in length. The station was first closed in 2000, with all trains running express, and demolished in 2020, due to the Gawler line electrification project. To the west of the station lies the Australian Rail Track Corporation Adelaide-Crystal Brook line. South Brighton Railway Station
South Brighton railway station is a former railway station on the Seaford line in Adelaide, South Australia. It was located about 15.8 kilometres from Adelaide station. The station closed in 1976, and was demolished shortly after, A newer station was built 200 metres to the south of that station in the same year. The old subway that went below the old station was in use until the early 1990s, but has now been filled in and replaced with a ground level passenger walkway. Seaford Railway Line
The Seaford railway line is a suburban commuter line in Adelaide, South Australia. History Before the extension of the line to Noarlunga Centre in 1978, the Willunga line ran from Hallett Cove station on a different route through Reynella, Morphett Vale and Hackham to Willunga (south-east of Noarlunga). It closed in 1969 and in September 1972 a track-removal train removed the tracks, and for six years Noarlunga had no train service. The South Australian Railways and its successor, the State Transport Authority, extended the current railway southwards in stages from Hallett Cove to cater for increasing residential development in the southern area. Torrens Bridge Railway Station
Torrens Bridge railway station was a short-lived railway station on the Outer Harbor line in North Adelaide. The location of the station was east of Bonython Park. It was located about from Adelaide station. The station was opened in 1883 as the result of a petition from a pressure group on behalf of residents of North Adelaide. Facilities consisted of two side platforms, buildings on both platforms and a footbridge between them. As its name suggests, the station was located just north of the railway bridge that crossed the River Torrens. Largs Pier Hotel
Largs Pier Hotel is located on the corner of The Esplanade and Jetty Road in Largs Bay, South Australia. Opening The Largs Pier Hotel opened in 1882 on the same day as the Largs Bay Railway and Pier. Believed to be 23 December according to The Port Adelaide Historical Society. Immigration From 1882 till around 1892 the Largs Pier was the primary port of call for New Australians travelling from Europe. Many of these immigrants spent their first nights in Australia at the hotel. Music The Largs Pier Hotel has a rich history of live performances. Jimmy Barnes has such fond memories of playing at the venue that he wrote a song in 2010 honouring the Hotel, "Largs Pier Hotel", which appears on his '' 30:30 Hindsight'' Album. Largs Railway Station, Adelaide
Largs railway station is located on the Outer Harbor line. Situated in the north-western Adelaide suburb of Largs Bay, it is 15.5 kilometres from Adelaide station. History Largs station was opened in 1907. A short line to Largs Jetty branched off just south of the station, but this closed in 1908. Originally, Largs station had a centre track in that space that was connected between both tracks and used as holding siding for trains, hence why the gap between the platforms is unusually wider than most stations. In 2014, some minor works were undertaken on the station to provide help with patrons from a nearby retirement village on Jetty Road. Largs Jetty Railway Station
Largs ( gd, An Leargaidh Ghallda) is a town on the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire, Scotland, about from Glasgow. The original name means "the slopes" (''An Leargaidh'') in Scottish Gaelic. Cheltenham Racecourse Railway Station, Adelaide
Cheltenham Racecourse railway station was located on the Outer Harbor line, serving Cheltenham Park Racecourse in Adelaide. History The station opened in 1895 as Cheltenham, serving both rail passengers and race-goers. In the early 1910s a siding with a step-down platform was provided east of Cheltenham Parade to provide direct access to the racecourse. This siding was used on race days only and closed a few decades later. In 1959, an island-platform station opened 500 metres outbound from the original station and was named Cheltenham. The original station was renamed Cheltenham Racecourse, and was restricted to raceday services only. On 21 February 2009, Cheltenham Park Racecourse closed to make way for new housing developments, and in June 2012, the station was demolished. Outer Harbor Railway Line
The Outer Harbor railway line is a suburban branch line in Adelaide, South Australia. It runs from Adelaide station through the north western suburbs to Port Adelaide and Outer Harbor. It is 21.9 kilometres in length, and shares part of its run with the Grange line. It is operated by Adelaide Metro.
