Deventer
Deventer (; Sallands: ) is a city and municipality in the Salland historical region of the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. In 2020, Deventer had a population of 100,913. The city is largely situated on the east bank of the river IJssel, but it also has a small part of its territory on the west bank. In 2005 the municipality of Bathmen (with a population of about 5,000 people) was merged with Deventer as part of a national effort to reduce bureaucracy in the country. Deventer is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The place is already mentioned in 9th-century sources of the Diocese of Utrecht. In a charter from 877 AD mentions seven hooves in ''Daventre portu'' (the Deventer harbor). In 952 AD, Deventer is mentioned as a city in a gift certificate from King Otto I. Balkbrug
Balkbrug is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality Hardenberg, about 5 km west of Dedemsvaart. History Balkbrug is located where the road from Ommen splits into a road to Meppel and Leeuwarden, and a road to Hoogeveen and the city of Groningen. In 1599, a redoubt was constructed in Ommerschans, south of Balkbrug. The village appeared in 1811 along the as part of a peat colony. It is named after a simple type of bridge. In 1819, a beggar's colony was founded to the south of the village. In 1840, it was home to 1,308 people. The church was built in 1896. In 1893/94, the beggar's colony was turned into the state educational institution Veldzicht, a prison for young offenders. In 1911, it was enlarged and became the largest of the Netherlands. Zwartewaterland
Zwartewaterland () is a municipality in the province Overijssel in the eastern Netherlands. Geography This mainly rural municipality lies south of Steenwijkerland on the ''Zwarte Water'' (Black Water). This is a short tributary of the river IJssel from Zwolle to the ''Zwarte Meer'' (Black Lake). Before 1931 this lake was a part of the Zuiderzee. The Vecht also flows into the Zwarte Water. Steenwijkerland (; nds-nl, Stienwiekerlaand or ''Steenwiekerlaand'') is a municipality in the province of Overijssel, in the eastern Netherlands. It was called Steenwijk before 2003. The municipality forms the entire northwesterly corner of the province. This area is called "the Head of Overijssel" (in Dutch: ''de Kop van Overijssel''). It borders the province Friesland. Baarlo, Steenwijkerland
Baarlo is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality Steenwijkerland, about 1 km northwest of the city of Blokzijl. It was first mentioned in 1219 as Barlo, and means "barren forest". During the Middle Ages, it used to have a chapel, however it was damaged in a 1825 flood, and demolished in 1836. Until the Noordoostpolder was reclaimed, the village lay on the dyke of the IJsselmeer. In 1840, it was home to 145 people.
