Uppland
Uppland () is a historical province or ' on the eastern coast of Sweden, just north of Stockholm, the capital. It borders Södermanland, Västmanland and Gästrikland. It is also bounded by lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. On the small uninhabited island of Märket in the Baltic, Uppland has a very short and unusually shaped land border with Åland, an autonomous province of Finland. The name literally means ''up land'', a name which is commonly encountered in especially older English literature as ''Upland''. Its Latinised form, which is occasionally used, is ''Uplandia''. Uppland is famous for having the highest concentration of runestones in the world, with as many as 1,196 inscriptions in stone left by the Vikings. Fredrik Blom
Fredrik Blom (24 January 1781 – 25 September 1853) was a Swedish officer, architect and professor at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. Life Fredrik Blom was born in Karlskrona. His father was a compass maker journeyman. He began his career as a carpenter, working for the navy at the Karlskrona naval base. He was educated by Johan Törnström and his aesthetic talent seems to have been identified early on, probably by his superior Jonas Lidströmer. In 1798 he was relieved from his job as a carpenter and probably started studying architecture at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts the same year. He was taught and influenced by Louis Jean Desprez and Fredrik Magnus Piper. His first independent work was the rather unassuming (and later heavily altered) town hall of Sölvesborg, completed in 1805. Boglösa Church
Boglösa Church ( sv, Boglösa kyrka) is a medieval Lutheran church in the Archdiocese of Uppsala a few kilometres south of Enköping in Uppsala County, Sweden. History and architecture Boglösa Church lies in an area with old cultural traditions; notably, there are several preserved petroglyphs in the vicinity of the church. According to an old tradition, a battle against an unnamed enemy was once fought on the site of the church. The oldest parts of the church dates from the early Middle Ages, i.e. the 12th or 13th century. The church was enlarged during the 14th century, and during the 15th century the wooden ceiling was replaced with brick vaults. The church was further enlarged during the 18th century, and received larger windows. A renovation was carried out in 1957-59. Among the furnishings, the altarpiece (15th century) merits special attention. It was originally made for Stockholm Cathedral but sold to Boglösa Church already in 1470. Bladåker Church
Bladåker Church ( sv, Bladåkers kyrka) is a Lutheran church in the Archdiocese of Uppsala in Uppsala County, Sweden. History and architecture The first written record of a church on this site dates from 1316. The presently visible church, however, dates from the late 15th or early 16th century, with the exception of the sacristy (13th century) which is the only remains of the earlier, probably otherwise wooden, church. The church is constructed of fieldstone, with brick having been used for details and decorations in the façade. The external bell tower, made of wood, was erected in 1748. Inside, the church is decorated with frescos, dating from 1623. These were painted over during the 18th century but have since been restored. Björklinge is a locality situated in Uppsala Municipality, Uppsala County, Sweden with 3,269 inhabitants in 2010. The name, written as ''Birklinge'', was used for the parish as early as 1314, and Norsemen graves have been found in the area. Björklinge is situated on a glacial ridge next to lake Långsjön. European route E4 passed through the village until the new motorway east of Björklinge was opened for traffic on October 17, 2007. Björklinge church, which was first built in the early 14th century and re-built in the 17th century, is in the centre of the village. The spelman Anders Ljungqvist, called "Gås-Anders" (Anders of the geese), lived in Björklinge most of his life.
