List Of Centenarian Masters Track And Field Records
In the sport of track and field, centenarians compete in the M100 & M105 (men) or W100 (women) age categories of masters athletics. The world records for this age group are ratified by World Masters Athletics, the global sports body for masters track and field. National bodies, such as the USA Masters division of USATF, may also retain national records for the best performances in athletics events recorded by athletes aged 100 and over. In addition, competition-specific records for centenarians are retained for major events, such as World Masters Athletics Championships, World Masters Indoor Athletics Championships, USATF Masters Outdoor Championships, USATF Masters Indoor Championships, and the Senior Games. Track and field is a sport that includes athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. The name is derived from where the sport takes place, a running track and a grass field for the throwing and some of the jumping events. Track and field is categorized under the umbrella sport of athletics, which also includes road running, cross country running and racewalking. The foot racing events, which include sprints, middle- and long-distance events, racewalking, and hurdling, are won by the athlete who completes it in the least time. The jumping and throwing events are won by those who achieve the greatest distance or height. Ida Olivia Keeling ( Potter, May 15, 1915 – August 25, 2021) was an American centenarian track and field athlete. Trained by her daughter Cheryl (Shelley) Keeling, herself a world record holder, Ida set Masters records in 60 meter and 100 meter distances for women in the 95-99 and 100-plus age groups. Her story was featured in a segment in the Carl Reiner-hosted documentary ''If You're Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast'', on aging over 90, which premiered on HBO in June 2017. List Of World Records In Masters Athletics
Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. These are the current world records in various five-year-groups , maintained by WMA, the World Association of Masters Athletes, which is designated by the World Athletics (formerly IAAF) to conduct the worldwide sport of Masters (Veterans) Athletics (Track and Field). Starting at age 35, each age group starts on the athlete's birthday in years that are evenly divisible by 5 and extends until the next such occurrence. For record purposes, older athletes are not included in younger age groups, except in the case of relay team members. A relay team's age group is determined by the age of the youngest member. Some Masters events (hurdles, throwing implements) have modified specifications. The combined events use an age-graded result applied against the standard scoring table. Orville Curtis Rogers (November 28, 1917 – November 14, 2019) was an American pilot, military veteran, and competitive runner. Early life Rogers was born to Stephen Alfred Rogers and Lillie Leona Johnston at home in Hubbard, Texas. The family moved to Okemah, Oklahoma soon after. Orville's sister, Veva Jean, was born in 1922. After short stays in Oklahoma City and Edmond, Oklahoma, Stephen left, and Lillie moved her family back to Okemah to live with her parents, Rueben Jefferson Daniel Johnston and Mary Elizabeth Gilbreath. Man Kaur (1 March 1916 – 31 July 2021) was an Indian track-and-field athlete. She holds the world records in the Over-100 years old categories for a variety of events. At the age of 103, she was given the Nari Shakti Puraskar award by the President of India. Life Man Kaur's height was about five feet (150 cm) and she was a native Punjabi speaker. She won multiple gold medals at the World Masters Athletics Championships. She did not start to pursue athletics until she was 93. In 2016 she became the fastest centenarian at a competition in the American Masters Games. In anticipation of the 2017 World Masters Games, Kaur trained regularly at Punjabi University, in hopes of improving upon her own world record which she set over the years. Takashi Shimokawara (July 25, 1906 – March 11, 2011) was a Japanese centenarian from Kamaishi, Iwate. He is the current M100 Masters Athletics World Records, world record holder in the shot put, discus and javelin throw. He also holds the M95 Japanese national record in the javelin, set at the age of 100. He was killed during the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami at age 104.
