Wood County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 74,207. Its county seat is Wisconsin Rapids. The county is named after Joseph Wood, a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Babcock is an census-designated place located in Wood County, Wisconsin, United States. Babcock is southwest of Wisconsin Rapids, in the town of Remington. Babcock has a post office with ZIP code 54413. As of the 2010 census, its population is 126. Its motto is "Birds, Bogs, and Bucks." The community was named for Joseph W. Babcock, a sawmill operator who purchased the site and built a hotel and a depot. Babcock was once an important junction on the Milwaukee Road, with lines running north, east, south, and southwest. Adams County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,654. Its county seat is Friendship. The county was created in 1848 and organized in 1853. Sources differ as to whether its name is in honor of the second President of the United States, John Adams, or his son, the sixth President, John Quincy Adams. History The founders of Adams County were from upstate New York. These people were "Yankee" settlers, that is to say they were descended from the English Separatists who settled New England in the 1600s. Pepin County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,318, making it the fourth-least populous county in Wisconsin. Its county seat is Durand. Arkansaw is an unincorporated census-designated place in the eastern portion of the town of Waterville, in Pepin County, Wisconsin, United States. Located approximately west of Durand, it has the ZIP code of 54721. As of the 2010 census, its population was 177. From 1881 to 1886, the community was the county seat of Pepin County. History Arkansaw was founded in the early 1850s at a crossing of Arkansaw Creek, a tributary of the Eau Galle River. Initially built around lumbering, the first sawmill was opened in the community in 1852. The community was originally built near the center of three dams within a mile of each other on Arkansaw Creek. All three were wiped out in a flood in 1907.
