Iceland
Iceland ( is, Ísland; ) is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean and in the Arctic Ocean. Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. Iceland's capital and largest city is Reykjavík, which (along with its surrounding areas) is home to over 65% of the population. Iceland is the biggest part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that rises above sea level, and its central volcanic plateau is erupting almost constantly. The interior consists of a plateau characterised by sand and lava fields, mountains, and glaciers, and many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Júníus Meyvant
Júníus Meyvant is the stage name and musical project of Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson, an Icelandic singer-songwriter. NPR Music described his style as "soul-stirring melodies from way up north" in discussing his 2014 single, "Color Decay." That year, KEXP-FM, a Seattle radio station, named the single a song of the day. Meyvant performs internationally, playing his first New York City show in 2017. He also performed at Bumbershoot 2017, a Seattle music festival. He released his ''Floating Harmonies'' album through Record Records, an Icelandic label. The art on the cover is his own work. Jakobínarína
Jakobínarína were an Icelandic six-piece indie-punk band from Hafnarfjörður near Reykjavik. Jakobinarina were formed by Ágúst Fannar Ásgeirsson, Björgvin Ingi Pétursson, Gunnar Bergmann, Hallberg Dadi Hallbergsson, Heimir Gestur Valdimarsson and Sigurdur Möller Sívertsen in 2004 when they were at school and gained attention and success after they won the Icelandic version of Battle of the Bands, Músíktilraunir in 2005. In 2006, they performed at the South by Southwest festival, and released their first EP ''His Lyrics Are Disastrous'' on Rough Trade Records. They toured Britain and in 2007, they signed to Parlophone and released their debut album ''The First Crusade''. Jagúar (band)
Jagúar () is a funk band formed in 1998 in Reykjavík, Iceland. They went international in 2000, when they performed at the "1000 years since the Vikings found America" celebration in New York City. The band gained critical acclaim for their second album, ''Get the Funk Out'', which won the Icelandic Music Awards' 2001 "Album of the Year". The band and its many current and former members continue to be active in the Icelandic jazz scene. History The original lineup consisted of Daði Birgisson (keyboards), Ingi S. Skúlason ( bass), Jón Indriðason (drums), Börkur H. Birgisson (guitar), Hrafn Ásgeirsson (tenor sax) and Birkir Mattíasson (trumpet), who were interested in playing funk, soul and jazz. Ingó og Veðurguðirnir (in English Ingó and the Weathergods) is an Icelandic musical formation made up of Ingó (full name Ingólfur Þórarinsson) as main vocalist and acoustic guitar player with Maggi (guitar), Eyþór (bass) and Óskar (drums). Ingó og Veðurguðirnir are best known for their summer hit " Bahama". The song stayed at the top of Tónlist, the official Icelandic Singles Chart for 9 consecutive weeks in 2008. They peaked the Iceland charts for one week in 2009 with "Nóttin er liðin". Hatari (band)
Hatari (; ) are an Icelandic techno, industrial and punk rock band and performance art group from Reykjavík. Their public image incorporates elements of anti-capitalism and BDSM attire. The band consists of Klemens Hannigan, Matthías Haraldsson and Einar Stefánsson, and has released one album and one extended play, encompassing several singles. Hatari represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with their song "Hatrið mun sigra", finishing 10th in the final. History Early history (2015–2018) Hatari was formed in mid-2015 by cousins Klemens Hannigan and Matthías Haraldsson. GusGus is an electronic music band from Reykjavík, Iceland. Although initially a film and acting collective, the group is mostly known for its electronic music. The group's discography consists of eleven studio albums. History GusGus was initially formed in 1995 as a film and acting collective. The band's name refers to the 1974 German film '' Ali: Fear Eats the Soul'' (german: Angst essen Seele auf) by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, where a female character is cooking couscous for her lover, pronouncing it ''Gusgus''. Fræbbblarnir is an Icelandic punk-pop musical group. They were formed in Iceland in 1978 and released a number of records until they quit early in 1983. A punk-pop band playing short, melodic songs fast and raw, they were inspired by the Ramones, Clash, Stranglers, Jam, Sex Pistols, Damned, Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias, Stiff Little Fingers, Undertones, Buzzcocks, Crass, Elvis Costello, Ian Dury and the rest of the early punk and New Wave scene, as well as 1960s bands like the Kinks and Troggs. They appeared in the documentary Rokk í Reykjavík, and the album “Viltu nammi væna?” is regarded as a classic.
