Academy Awards
The Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, are awards for artistic and technical merit for the American and international film industry. The awards are regarded by many as the most prestigious, significant awards in the entertainment industry worldwide. Given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the awards are an international recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements, as assessed by the Academy's voting membership. The various category winners are awarded a copy of a golden statuette as a trophy, officially called the "Academy Award of Merit", although more commonly referred to by its nickname, the "Oscar". The statuette, depicting a knight rendered in the Art Deco style, was originally sculpted by Los Angeles artist George Stanley from a design sketch by art director Cedric Gibbons. The 1st Academy Awards were held in 1929 at a private dinner hosted by Douglas Fairbanks in The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The Academy Awards cerem ...

Raspberry Beret
"Raspberry Beret" is a song written by American musician Prince and is the lead single from Prince & the Revolution's 1985 album ''Around the World in a Day''. Background The sound of the song expanded upon previous Prince arrangements, incorporating stringed instruments, Middle Eastern finger cymbals, and a harmonica on the extended version. The song was also more in the pop vein than before, though the 12-inch single and video of the song feature a funky intro. The song tells of a teenage romance and first sexual experience with a girl who wears a raspberry-colored beret. The extended version was included on the compilation album ''Ultimate'' in 2006. While the song hit number one in ''Cash Box'' and reached number two on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in the US (behind "A View to a Kill" by Duran Duran), it only reached number 25 on the UK Singles Chart. Releases The US B-side, "She's Always in My Hair", is a rock and roll number, with guitar and organs and emotional lyrics scr ...

Graffiti Bridge (film)
''Graffiti Bridge'' is a 1990 American rock musical drama film written, directed by, and starring Prince in his third and final major theatrical film role. It is a standalone sequel to his 1984 film '' Purple Rain''. Like its predecessor, it was accompanied by a soundtrack album of the same name. Plot The plot continues with The Kid, living a future life as an upbeat performer and co-owner of a club, Glam Slam, which was willed to him from Billy, who owned the First Avenue Club in the first film. Solitary and lovelorn, he spends his personal time composing songs, and writing letters to his deceased father. The other co-owner who was included in the will is Morris (Morris Day), his rival who now also owns his own club, Pandemonium, while desiring to control the other two clubs in the Seven Corners area, which are Melody Cool and the Clinton Club. Needing to pay the mayor of Seven Corners $10,000, Morris attempts to extort The Kid – by threatening to take full ownership of Glam ...

Thieves In The Temple
"Thieves in the Temple" is a song by American musician Prince from the 1990 soundtrack album '' Graffiti Bridge''. Added at the last minute, it was the final song recorded for the album. "Thieves in the Temple" topped the US R&B chart and became a number six hit in the US, and a number seven hit in the UK. The single also peaked at number nine on the dance chart. The track has a unique sound, starting quietly with echoed keyboards and vocals before the main section of the song booms in with a pulsating synth bass, syncopated drum machines, Middle Eastern melodies and opera-like layered vocals. Prince also samples a harmonica solo from a recording by The Chambers Brothers. The vocals are emotional, and accuse the subject of rejecting Prince and lying to him. The "temple" in the title recalls the ever-present spirituality in many of Prince's songs. The maxi single contains extended lyrics that continue the theme before diverging into more dance-oriented material. The maxi single ...

Partyman
"Partyman" is a song by American musician Prince (musician), Prince from his 1989 ''Batman (album), Batman'' album, and the follow-up to his number one hit, "Batdance". The song is one of the few on the album to be prominently featured in Batman (1989 film), the film, accompanying the scene in which the Joker (comics), Joker and his minions deface exhibits in the Gotham City Art Museum before meeting Vicki Vale. The song was inspired by Prince's meeting with Jack Nicholson on-set during the filming of ''Batman''. Prince remarked in a 1990 interview, "[Nicholson] had this attitude that reminded me of Morris Day, Morris [Day] — and there was that song." The upbeat and humorous number features horn samples and Prince's sped-up "Camille (album), Camille" vocals, as well as a vocal performance by Anna Fantastic. Nothing Compares 2 U
"Nothing Compares 2 U" is a song written and composed by Prince for his side project, The Family; the song featured on their eponymous 1985 debut album. The song features lyrics exploring feelings of longing from the point of view of an abandoned lover. Several years later, Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor recorded a version of the song for her second studio album, ''I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got'' (1990). It was released as the album's second single in early 1990 and became a worldwide hit. O'Connor co-produced the record with Nellee Hooper, and its music video, directed by John Maybury, received heavy rotation on MTV. In December 1990, ''Billboard'' named "Nothing Compares 2 U" as the "#1 World Single" of 1990 at its first ''Billboard'' Music Awards. Prince released his own rendition of "Nothing Compares 2 U", with Rosie Gaines on guest vocals in 1993. This live version of the song was included on his compilation album ''The Hits/The B-Sides''. U Got The Look
"U Got the Look" is a song by American musician Prince. It opens the second disc of Prince's double album ''Sign o' the Times'' (1987), and became the album's runner-up chart single. Musically, the song is a standard 12-bar rock song with emphasis on the contrast between heavy drum beats by a Linn LM-1 drum machine and Sheila E.'s live percussion, and a vastly distorted almost completely saturated guitar sound. Although not credited on the single release, the song also features Scottish recording artist Sheena Easton. Prince sings in his sped-up "Camille" voice, although the song was not intended for the '' Camille'' album. The lyrics recite the familiar "boy versus girl in the World Series of love" line. (Coincidentally, the 1987 World Series came to Prince's hometown of Minneapolis a few months after the song was released.) The music video for the song featuring Sheena Easton was filmed in Paris, France, and was directed by American music video director David Hogan. It was inclu ...
