Tools and processes Imagery There are many mechanisms for creating AI art, including procedural 'rule-based' generation of images using mathematical patterns, algorithms which simulate brush strokes and other painted effects, and artificial intelligence or deep learning algorithms such as generative adversarial networks and transformers. One of the first significant AI art systems is AARON, developed by Harold Cohen beginning in the late 1960s at the University of California at San Diego. Sougwen Chung
Sougwen Chung (鍾愫君) is a Chinese-born, Canadian-raised artist residing in London. Chung's artistic practices are based on performance, drawing, still image, sculpture, and installation. Chung's work investigates mark-made-by-machine and mark-made-by-hand for understanding the encounter of computers and humans. Early life Chung grew up in Toronto, Canada, and Hong Kong. Their father, an opera singer, made sure that his children had experience with musical instruments at a very young age, and Chung grew up playing violin and piano. Sougwen Chung moved to the United States as a teenager and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Indiana University before obtaining a Masters Diploma in Interactive Art from Hyper Island in Sweden. Harold Cohen (artist)
Harold Cohen (1 May 1928 – 27 April 2016) was a British-born artist who was noted as the creator of AARON, a computer program designed to produce art autonomously. His work in the intersection of computer artificial intelligence and art attracted a great deal of attention, leading to exhibitions at many museums, including the Tate Gallery in London, and acquisitions by many others. Early life Cohen was born in London, the son of Polish-Russian parents, and was educated there at the Slade School of Fine Art. Career Cohen represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennial in 1966. Cohen moved to the United States as a visiting lecturer at the University of California, San Diego in 1968. Jake Elwes
Jake Elwes is a British media artist. Their practice is the exploration of artificial intelligence (AI), queer theory and technical biases. They are known for using AI to create art in mediums such as video, performance and installation. Their work on queering technology addresses issues caused by the normative biases of artificial intelligence. Libby Heaney
Libby Heaney is a British artist and quantum physicist known for her pioneering work on AI and quantum computing. She works on the impact of future technologies and is widely known to be the first artist to use quantum computing as a functioning artistic medium.
