''9'' is a 2009 computer-animated science fiction film directed by Shane Acker, written by Pamela Pettler and produced by Jim Lemley, Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov and Dana Ginsburg. In the film, Elijah Wood voices a small ragdoll-like robot who awakens shortly after the end of mankind, and must find eight other robots to figure out the mystery behind humanity's destruction while tangling with the vicious creations of a massive soul-stealing machine. The film also features the voices of John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover, with Martin Landau and Fred Tatasciore. The film is based on Acker's 2005 CG-animated, Academy Award-nominated short film of the same name created at the UCLA Animation Workshop. Focus Features released it theatrically on September 9, 2009. The film received generally mixed to positive reviews from critics and earned $48.4 million on a $30 million budget. ''Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard'' (French: ''Arthur et la Vengeance de Maltazard'') is a 2009 English-language French animated/live-action fantasy adventure film directed and co-written by Luc Besson. It is based on the third book of the ''Arthur'' children's books series by Besson. It is the sequel to ''Arthur and the Invisibles'' (2006), and the second installment in the ''Arthur'' film series. ''Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard'' was released theatrically in France on 2 December 2009 by EuropaCorp. The film received mixed reviews from critics in France but was received negatively in the rest of the world. Like its predecessor's, it was a box-office success in France but it under-performed internationally, and was released as a direct-to-video in the United States. ''Bionicle: The Legend Reborn'' is a 2009 computer-animated science fantasy action film based on the Bionicle toy line by Lego. It is the fourth and final Bionicle film to be released. Ryuhei Kitamura
(born May 30, 1969) is a Japanese film director, producer, and screenwriter. Biography Early life Kitamura was born in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He dropped out of high school at age 17 and relocated to Sydney, Australia, where he attended a school for visual arts. His first film as director was the short ''Exit'', which he made as his graduation piece at age 19. Career After graduating, he returned to Japan to establish Napalm Films, his independent production studio. His featurettes ''Down to Hell'' and ''Heat after Dark'' were successful in film festivals, and he soon found his first mainstream success with the cult film '' Versus''. The film launched the career of stars Tak Sakaguchi and Hideo Sakaki, and brought Kitamura international recognition when it was released on DVD outside Japan in 2004. David Bowers (born 1970) is an English animator, film director, screenwriter and voice actor. Early life Bowers studied fine art at Chester School of Art and animation at West Surrey College of Art and Design. His first job was on ''Who Framed Roger Rabbit'', as an inbetweener, under director Richard Williams. Career After ''Roger Rabbit'', Bowers worked at Cosgrove Hall on the cult favourite television shows '' Danger Mouse'' and '' Duckula'' before moving to London to work for Steven Spielberg's Amblimation studio.
