This is a list of anglophone communities in the Canadian province of Quebec. Municipalities with a high percentage of English-speakers in Quebec are listed. The provincial average of Quebecois whose mother tongue is English is 7.6%, with a total of 639,365 people in Quebec who identify English as their mother tongue in 2021. The majority of anglophones in Quebec live in the western suburbs of Montréal and in Western Quebec. While most communities in these areas have sizeable English minorities, several municipalities have anglophone majorities. A number of small municipalities also have high anglophone populations. Brigham, Quebec
Brigham is a municipality located in the province of Quebec, Canada. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 2,457. Part of the Brome-Missisquoi Regional County Municipality, in the administrative region of Estrie, the municipality is west of Cowansville and close to Bromont. History Founded in 1855, its name became Adamsville in 1961, in honour of George Adams, owner of the land on which the church was founded in 1873. In 1980, there was a further name-change in favour of Brigham – this time to pay homage to Erratus Oakley Brigham, owner of the town's largest business (a brick factory) throughout the mid-19th century. Châteauguay
Châteauguay ( , , ) is an off-island suburb of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec, located both on the Chateauguay River and Lac St-Louis, which is a section of the St. Lawrence River. The population of the city of Châteauguay at the 2021 Census was 50,815, and the population centre was 75,891. History The land was first given to Charles Lemoyne by the governor of New France at the time, the Comte de Frontenac with the intention of setting up a seigneurie in the area. Afterwards the seigneurie was assumed by Zacharie Robutel de la Noue in 1706. In 1763 France relinquished its claims in Canada and Châteauguay was now under British mandate. The seigneurie was bought by Marguerite d'Youville, a founder of the Quebec religious society the Grey Nuns in 1765 and 10 years later construction began on the Church of Saint-Joachim. Les Collines-de-l'Outaouais Regional County Municipality
Les Collines-de-l'Outaouais (French for "The hills of the Outaouais") is a regional county municipality in the Outaouais region of western Quebec, Canada. The region nearly encircles the City of Gatineau, which is to the south. Its administrative seat is in Chelsea, Quebec. It was created in January 1991 when the Communauté régionale de l'Outaouais (Outaouais Regional Community) was split into Les Collines-de-l'Outaouais RCM and the Communauté urbaine de l'Outaouais (Outaouais Urban Community, now City of Gatineau). Cantley, Quebec
Cantley is a rural municipality in Quebec, Canada, north of the city of Gatineau, east of the Gatineau River, located within Canada's National Capital Region approximately from Parliament Hill. Cantley is one of six municipalities within the Collines-de-l'Outaouais Regional County Municipality. Its roots are in farmland, but recent housing projects since its creation in 1989 have resulted in a high rate of population growth. The population at the 2021 Canadian Census was 11,449, an increase of 7.0% from the 2016 population of 10,699. French is the first language of 86.7% of Cantley's residents. Candiac
Candiac is an off-island suburb of Montreal, in the Canadian province of Quebec; it is located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River opposite Montreal near La Prairie. The population as of the Canada 2016 Census was 21,047. History Candiac was created January 31, 1957, when the government of Quebec accepted the request of a Canadian-European investors group, the ''Candiac Development Corporation''. The investors had collected over $4.5 million and bought of land from farmers and the neighbouring towns. In its early days, Candiac was home to 320 people who mostly lived near the St. Lawrence River. Most of the inhabitants were either farmers or Montrealers who owned a second residence in Candiac. Bury is a municipality in Le Haut-Saint-François Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. Bury is home to a Canada Day celebration which is well known in the Estrie region and which draws in triple the town's population for a parade and events in the park. Bury, although it has no restaurants or cinemas, has a multitude of churches and one canteen. Argenteuil Regional County Municipality
Argenteuil is a regional county municipality located in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada. Its seat is Lachute. History In 1682, Charles-Joseph d'Ailleboust was granted by Louis de Buade de Frontenac, Governor General of New France, a domain of of land. This fiefdom was bounded by the Ottawa River to the south, a line through the center of the hamlet of Carillon in the west and Clear Lake (''Lac Clair'') to the north. Since Ailleboust already owned a house in Argenteuil near Paris, he called his domain Argenteuil Seigneury. In 1697, the Lord of Ailleboust and his wife Catherine Le Gardeur sold their seigneury to their son Pierre d'Ailleboust d'Argenteuil. The urban agglomeration of Longueuil was created on January 1, 2006 as a result of the de-amalgamation process brought upon by the Charest government. It encompasses all the boroughs that were merged into the previous city of Longueuil and still retains the same area as that mega-city.
