Ronald DeWayne Palmer (May 22, 1932 – April 21, 2014) was an American diplomat who served as United States Ambassador to Togo (1976–1978), Malaysia (1981–1983), and Mauritius (1986–1989). Early life He was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. From 1947 to 1949 he finished graduating high school in Detroit. After graduation Palmer received a B.A. from Howard University in 1954 with the majors of French and Economics. He became a Fulbright Scholar in France September 1954 and in October began teaching in the Institute of Political Science at the University of Bordeaux. In 1955 Palmer won a fellowship for the M.A, program at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University graduating in 1957. Malaysia–United States Relations
Bilateral ties between Malaysia and the United States were established upon Malayan independence in 1957. The US was, and still is one of the largest trading partners for Malaysia and is traditionally considered to be Malaysia's oldest and closest ally in military, economic and education sectors. Malaya was the predecessor state to Malaysia, a larger federation which was formed through the merger of Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapore in 1963. Immediately before the merger, the latter three territories were previously part of the British Empire. But the US had consular and commercial presence in Malaya since the 1800s. US merchants, especially Joseph William Torrey together with Thomas Bradley Harris also had commercial interests in north western coast of Borneo in the 19th century as well, where they established the American Trading Company of Borneo. Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir is the Executive Secretary of the United States Department of State. She previously served as the United States Ambassador to Malaysia from 2017 to 2021. Early life and education Lakhdhir was born in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of Ann (née Hallan) and Noor Lakhdhir. Her father had moved from Mumbai, India to the U.S. to study at the University of California, Berkeley and then later moved to New York City. Lakhdhir grew up in New York and Westport, Connecticut. There she was a regular participant in the annual United Nations Day, inspired in part by her mother, who had earlier served as president of the NGO Committee on Disarmament, Peace and Security at the United Nations. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. John Stern Wolf (born 1948) served as a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State from 1970–2004, including tours as Ambassador to Malaysia, Assistant Secretary for Nonproliferation, and Chief Monitor, The Middle East Roadmap for Peace.
