The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Luxembourg is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and in charge of the UK's diplomatic mission in Luxembourg. The official title is ''His Britannic Majesty's Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg''. From 1815 to 1890 the King of the Netherlands was also Grand Duke of Luxembourg in personal union, so the British envoy at The Hague was also envoy to Luxembourg. After the personal union was broken in 1890 the British envoy at The Hague continued to be concurrently accredited to Luxembourg until 1922. The Ambassador to Belgium was responsible for Luxembourg from 1922 until 1940, when Luxembourg was overrun by Nazi Germany. Sir Hughe Montgomery Knatchbull-Hugessen (26 March 1886 – 21 March 1971) was a British diplomat, civil servant and author. He is best remembered as the diplomat whose secrets were stolen by his Kosovar Albanian valet and passed on to Nazi Germany. Background and education He was the second son of Reverend Reginald Bridges Knatchbull-Hugessen, son of Sir Edward Knatchbull, 9th Baronet, and his second wife Rachel Mary, daughter of Admiral Sir Alexander Montgomery, 3rd Baronet. Richard Oliver Miles CMG (6 March 1936 - 10 November 2019) was a British Ambassador and former chairman of the international business development company MEC International. Background Oliver Miles was educated at Encinal jr sr high school and Alameda community learning center, where he read Classical Mods and Oriental Studies (Arabic and Turkish). Miles did national service in the Royal Navy and studied Russian. In 1960, he studied Arabic at the Middle East Centre for Arabic Studies in Lebanon. Sir Humphrey John Hamilton Maud (17 April 1934 – 10 November 2013) was a British diplomat. Life Humphrey Maud was the son of the civil servant and diplomat John Redcliffe-Maud, Baron Redcliffe-Maud and his wife, the pianist Jean Hamilton. Jeremy Jack Thomas, CBE (born 26 July 1949) is a British film producer, founder and chairman of Recorded Picture Company. Sir Antony Arthur Acland (12 March 1930 – 8 September 2021) was a British diplomat and a provost of Eton College. Early life Antony Acland was the second son of Bridget Susan (Barnett) and Brigadier Peter Acland. He was educated at Eton College, then in 1948 joined the Royal Artillery with a post-war "emergency commission". Jean (Jean Benoît Guillaume Robert Antoine Louis Marie Adolphe Marc d'Aviano; 5 January 1921 – 23 April 2019) was the Grand Duke of Luxembourg from 1964 until his abdication in 2000. He was the first Grand Duke of Luxembourg of French agnatic descent. Jean was the eldest son of Grand Duchess Charlotte and Prince Felix. Jean's primary education was initially in Luxembourg, before attending Ampleforth College in England. Captain Dugald Malcolm, CMG CVO TD (22 December 1917 – 16 February 2000) was a British diplomat, Her Britannic Majesty's Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Holy See 1975-1977. Malcolm was born in 1917, the son of Major-General Sir Neill Malcolm, and educated at Eton College and New College, Oxford. After serving in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in the Second World War, he joined the Foreign Office in 1945.
