Clark, South Dakota
Clark is a city in and county seat of Clark County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 1,148 at the 2020 census. History A post office was established at Clark in 1880. Clark was platted in 1882. The city took its name from Clark County. An early variant name was Clark Center. In 1882, railroad tracks were first built through the middle of Clark. The Burlington Northern railroad and County Highway 212 ran parallel to one another and divided Clark into halves - the north half and the south half. Highway 212 similarly runs through the middle of Clark, and provides a direct travel route starting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, into Clark, then went to the Black Hills and to Yellowstone National Park. Clark was officially founded in 1886, three years before South Dakota became a state. It is located on the eastern bank of the Missouri River, at the dammed section of the Lake Francis Case, close to where it is crossed by Interstate 90. The population of Chamberlain was 2,473 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Brule County. Chamberlain is home to the South Dakota Hall of Fame, and the 50-foot tall ''Dignity'' statue is nearby. Canton is a city in and the county seat of Lincoln County, South Dakota, United States. Canton is located 20 minutes south of Sioux Falls in southeastern South Dakota. Canton is nestled in the rolling hills of the Sioux Valley, providing an abundance of recreational activities with the Big Sioux River bordering the eastern side, Newton Hills State Park to the south, and Lake Alvin to the north. The city was named by Norwegian settler and former legislator James M. Wahl. The population was 3,066 as of the 2020 census. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a ''general aviation'' airport. The airport has had no airline service since September 2009 when the United States Department of Transportation ended the subsidy for its Essential Air Service. Facilities Brookings Regional Airport covers 576 acres (233 ha) at an elevation of 1,648 feet (502 m). It has two asphalt runways: 12/30 is 6,000 by 100 feet (1,594 x 30 m) and 17/35 is 3,600 by 60 feet (1,097 x 18 m).
