The Canefield Airport is an airport on the west coast of the island nation of Dominica. It is north of Roseau, the capital. Construction began in early 1979 with British funding, shortly after Dominica's independence. The airport was officially opened in 1982. Most people arrive in Dominica via Douglas–Charles Airport, where most commercial flights to the island land. Dominica also utilizes sea transport and a roadway network. The primary airport, Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM), is on the northeast coast and is about a 45-minute drive from Portsmouth (1 hour from Roseau). Wesley, Dominica
Wesley () is a village in north-eastern Dominica, situated between the old estates of Eden and Londonderry. Like many other villages along the east coast Wesley developed after Emancipation on hilly land along the boundary between the two estates as labourers sought to establish independent holdings for themselves away from the plantations where they had formerly lived and worked. In the mid 19th century, Charles Leatham, owner of Eden, sold several small lots in this area. His estates had been centres for early evangelization by Wesleyan missionaries and by as early as 1837 religious and night school gatherings were being held in a large estate building on Londonderry estate. Methodist influence grew further when free labourers were introduced into the estates of the north-east from Antigua, Montserrat, and other Leeward Islands to replant the sugar estates in cocoa and limes. Marigot, Dominica
Marigot is the largest settlement of Saint Andrew Parish in northeastern Dominica. The village has a population of 2,676 people, and is home to a Fisheries Complex as well as the island's main airport. It is the birthplace of Wills Stratmore Stevens a local Educationist and B.O Robinson a former education officer.
