List Of Vancouver Whitecaps FC Seasons
This is an almanac of seasons played by Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Major League Soccer and other soccer competitions. The list covers the current incarnation from 2011 to present. The original NASL Whitecaps began play in 1974 before going defunct in 1984. The club was revived in the form of the Vancouver 86ers two years later. This form of the club was renamed Vancouver Whitecaps in 2001 and was succeeded by the current club in 2011, which joined MLS as an expansion club. This list details Vancouver's achievements in senior league and cup competitions, the top scorers and the average attendance for each season. Vancouver Whitecaps FC
Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club is a Canadian professional soccer team based in Vancouver. They compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The MLS iteration of the club was established on March 18, 2009, and began play in 2011 as the 17th team to enter Major League Soccer while replacing the USSF Division 2 team of the same name in the city, making them a phoenix club and the third to carry the Whitecaps name. The club has been owned and managed by the same group since their USSF days. In the 2012 season, the team became the first Canadian team to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. The Whitecaps have won two Canadian Championships, in 2015 and 2022. The 2011 Vancouver Whitecaps FC season was the Whitecaps' debut season in Major League Soccer. The MLS club has incorporated the history of its NASL and various lower division predecessors into its marketing campaigns, reflecting 36 years of professional soccer in Vancouver. On March 19, 2011, Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Toronto FC at Empire Field in their league opening match by a score of 4–2. It was the first match between two Canadian clubs in league history. The 2014 Major League Soccer season was the 102nd season of FIFA-sanctioned soccer in the United States and Canada, the 36th with a national first-division league, and the 19th season of Major League Soccer. This season featured 19 total clubs (16 from the United States and 3 from Canada), each playing 34 matches during the regular season. The 2014 Regular Season started on March 8 with Sporting Kansas City, the defending MLS Cup champion, playing at the Seattle Sounders FC. The 2013 Canadian Championship (officially the Amway Canadian Championship for sponsorship reasons) was a soccer tournament hosted and organized by the Canadian Soccer Association that took place in the cities of Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver in 2013. As in the previous tournament, participating teams included FC Edmonton, Montreal Impact, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Montreal Impact won the Voyageurs Cup and became Canada's entry into the Group Stage of the 2013–14 CONCACAF Champions League. It was the sixth edition of the annual Canadian Championship. Darren Mattocks
Darren Dimitri Mattocks (born 2 September 1990) is a Jamaican professional footballer who last played as a forward for Phoenix Rising FC and the Jamaica national football team. College career Mattocks played for the University of Akron where he made 47 appearances and scored 39 goals over two years. He was nominated for several awards during his tenure, including one to the first-year All-American teams by several different media outlets. Professional career Vancouver Whitecaps FC Mattocks was selected by Vancouver Whitecaps FC with the second overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. The 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs was the seventeenth post-season tournament culminating the Major League Soccer regular season. The tournament began on October 31, and culminated on December 1, 2012 with MLS Cup 2012, the seventeenth league championship for MLS, won by the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1 over Houston Dynamo. It was the second year that the playoffs included ten teams, and the first playoff series since 2006 in which teams cannot cross conference brackets. In 2011, the expansion Whitecaps FC struggled to find the results and finished at the bottom of the league table winning just six matches with none on the road.
