List Of Utah Jazz Seasons
This article is a list of seasons completed by the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Jazz joined the NBA as the New Orleans Jazz, an expansion team that began play in the 1974–75 season. The Jazz relocated from New Orleans to Salt Lake City, Utah for the 1979–80 season. As of the 2019–20 season, the Utah Jazz are the last franchise to not record a 60-loss season. Seasons Notes: A: In this season, each division winner was automatically seeded no worse than 4th place. Jazz was the Northwest Division winner (51-31), but had a worse record than the Spurs (58-24) who was seeded 3rd and the Jazz was seeded 4th. In the first round, the 5th seed Rockets (52-30) had a better record than the 4th seed Jazz, so the Rockets was awarded home-court advantage even with a lower seed. The Utah Jazz are an American professional basketball team based in Salt Lake City. The Jazz compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Western Conference (NBA), Western Conference, Northwest Division (NBA), Northwest Division. Since the 1991–92 Utah Jazz season, 1991–92 season, the team has played its home games at Vivint Arena. Tom Nissalke
Thomas Edward Nissalke (July 7, 1932 – August 22, 2019) was an American professional basketball coach in the National Basketball Association and American Basketball Association. He coached several teams in both leagues, and had an overall coaching record of 371–508. Coaching career After a season with the Dallas Chaparrals (where he won ABA coach of the Year), Nissalke moved to the NBA with the Sonics for one season. He returned to the team, now in San Antonio, in 1973, bringing with him "a patterned, deliberate offense to San Antonio". During his tenure, the "Iceman" George Gervin had arrived from the Virginia Squires and was the center of the team. Midwest Division (NBA)
The Midwest Division was a division in the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division was created at the start of the 1970–71 season, when the league expanded from 14 to 17 teams with the addition of the Buffalo Braves, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Portland Trail Blazers. The league realigned itself into two conferences, the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference, with two divisions each in each conference. The Midwest Division began with four inaugural members, the Chicago Bulls, the Detroit Pistons, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns. The Bulls and the Suns joined from the Western Division, while the Pistons and the Bucks joined from the Eastern Division. Western Conference (NBA)
The Western Conference is one of two Athletic conference, conferences that make up the National Basketball Association (NBA), the other being the Eastern Conference (NBA), Eastern Conference. Both conferences consist of 15 teams organized into three Division (sport), divisions. The current divisional alignment was adopted at the start of the 2004–05 NBA season, 2004–05 season, when the now Charlotte Hornets began play as the NBA's 30th franchise. The 1978–79 New Orleans Jazz season was their fifth season in the NBA and its last in New Orleans. 1977–78 New Orleans Jazz Season
The 1977–78 New Orleans Jazz season was the team's fourth in the NBA. They began the season hoping to improve upon their 35–47 output from the previous season. They started the season going 6-2 and later in the season with a 16-24 record, the team managed to go on a 10-game winning streak and we're still in a playoff hunt with a 36-37 record before a 6-game losing streak dashed any playoff hopes for the fourth straight season, but still they finished the season with a 3-game winning streak and improved their 35-47 one year earlier by four wins, finishing 39–43. Butch Van Breda Kolff
Willem Hendrik "Butch" van Breda Kolff (October 28, 1922August 22, 2007) was an American basketball player and coach. Biography Early life and career Butch was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, son of Dutch soccer player Jan van Breda Kolff. He gained an affection for basketball while growing up in Montclair. He attended The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. He then attended Princeton University, where he played basketball for Franklin "Cappy" Cappon, and New York University, where he also played basketball. Signed by the New York Knicks in 1946, he spent four seasons playing as a professional. Elgin Baylor
Elgin Gay Baylor ( ; September 16, 1934 – March 22, 2021) was an American professional basketball player, coach, and executive. He played 14 seasons as a forward in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers. Baylor was a gifted shooter, a strong rebounder, and an accomplished passer, who was best known for his trademark hanging jump shot. Scotty Robertson
Robert Scott "Scotty" Robertson III (February 1, 1930 – August 18, 2011) was an American basketball coach. He was the first coach for the New Orleans Jazz (now the Utah Jazz), and he later coached the Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons. He also has a stint as assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, and the Miami Heat. Career Robertson was born in Fort Smith in western Arkansas. As a sixth grader, he moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he played basketball and baseball for C. E. Byrd High School, from which he graduated in 1947.
