Ben Sasse
Benjamin Eric Sasse ( ; born February 22, 1972) is an American politician and academic administrator serving as the junior United States senator for Nebraska since 2015. He is a member of the Republican Party. Born in Plainview, Nebraska, Sasse holds a bachelor's degree in government from Harvard University, a Master of Arts in liberal studies from St. John's College and master's and doctoral degrees in American history from Yale University. He has taught at the University of Texas and has served as an assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In 2010, Sasse was named the 15th president of Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. In 2014, Sasse ran for a vacant seat in the U.S. Senate. Algernon Sidney Paddock (November 9, 1830October 17, 1897) was an American politician who was a United States Republican Party, Republican secretary of Nebraska Territory and U.S. Senator from Nebraska after statehood. Biography Paddock was born in Glens Falls, New York. His father, Ira Paddock, was a prominent lawyer. Algernon lived in upstate New York until the age of 27, attending Glens Falls Academy and Union College, teaching school and studying law. He visited a brother in Detroit, Michigan, for three months after college, but then returned to New York. The anti-polygamist activist Cornelia Paddock was the wife of Paddock's cousin, Alonzo Paddock. Phineas Warren Hitchcock (November 30, 1831July 10, 1881) was an American Delegate and a Senator from Nebraska. Hitchcock County, Nebraska, is named after him. Early life He was born in New Lebanon, Columbia County, New York, the son of Gad Hitchcock and Nancy Prime. When he turned 16, he began two years preparatory course study at the Great Barrington Academy in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He entered Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts graduating in 1855. His classmates at Williams included, James A. Garfield, James Gilfillan and John James Ingalls. John Milton Thayer
John Milton Thayer (January 24, 1820March 19, 1906) was a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War and a postbellum United States Senator from Nebraska. Thayer served as Governor of Wyoming Territory and Governor of Nebraska. Thayer was born in Bellingham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He attended and taught in rural schools. He graduated from Brown University in 1841, and established a practice in Worcester, Massachusetts. Thayer was the editor of the Worcester Magazine and the Historical Journal. Thayer served as a lieutenant in the local militia company before deciding to move with his family to the West. He was married to Mary Torrey Allen on December 27, 1842, and they had six children.
