Unipalm was a U.K.-based company that operated between 1986 and 2003 that specialised in networking different computers together using TCP/IP technology and was an early promoter of internet technology. History Unipalm Ltd was founded as a software reseller in Cambridge in 1986 by Peter Dawe, later forming PIPEX in 1990, as the first commercial ISP in the UK. In its very early days, their office was in Hardwick, Cambridgeshire (UK) In March 1994 ''Unipalm Group Plc'' floated on the London Stock Exchange, the purpose of the flotation was to expand the growth of ''The Public I.P. Exchange Ltd'' (Pipex). In July 1995 the company changed its trading name to Unipalm-Pipex. ''Unipalm PIPEX'' was sold to UUNet in November 1995 for GBP150 million, where it became UUNET/PIPEX. Freeserve was a British Internet service provider, which was founded in 1998. At its height, the company became a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index, before merging into the Wanadoo group in 2000. It then became a subsidiary of France Telecom, who owned a controlling interest in Wanadoo. Wanadoo rebranded over time and eventually became Orange Home UK. The company was founded in 1997 in Sheffield, England, and became a public limited company (plc) in July 2004 when it was floated on the Alternative Investment Market. On 30 January 2007, Plusnet was acquired by BT Group, but it continues to operate as a separate business. By December 2013, it had over 750,000 customers across the UK. Zen Internet is an Internet service provider (ISP) based in Rochdale, England. History Zen was founded in 1995 by Richard Tang (then Managing Director, now Chairman) after a drink in the pub, Zen Internet was one of the first ISPs in the United Kingdom. Zen began by providing Internet access to schools and small businesses in the Rochdale area. In February 2008, the company announced they would not be speaking to or partnering with Phorm, a controversial advertising company hoping to purchase user data from UK Internet service providers. In April 2008, Zen Internet moved all its employees from their purpose-built HQ on Moss Bridge Road in Rochdale into the much larger Sandbrook House offices located at Sandbrook Park (Rochdale), a move part funded by the North West Regional Development Agency. Timico is an Information Technology Managed Services provider in the United Kingdom. Company overview Timico gained a top 10 place in The Sunday Times Tech Track Fastest Growing Companies list, and in 2009 were ranked 7th in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50. Timico was founded by Tim Radford who previously ran Project Telecom, a mobile service provider which was sold to Vodafone in 2003 for £162m. The company moved into purpose built offices in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, in January 2007, from the Chairman's family barns, which previously housed the company.
