List Of UK Top-ten Albums In 1959
The UK Albums Chart is one of many music charts compiled by the Official Charts Company that calculates the best-selling albums of the week in the United Kingdom. Before 2004, the chart was only based on the sales of physical albums. This list shows albums that peaked in the Top 5 (top 10 from November) of the UK Albums Chart during 1958, as well as albums which peaked in 1957 or 1959 but were in the top 5/10 in 1958. The entry date is when the album appeared in the top 5/10 for the first time (week ending, as published by the Official Charts Company, which is six days after the chart is announced). Thirty-nine albums were in the top ten this year. Three albums from 1956 and eleven albums from 1958 remained in the top 10 for several weeks at the beginning of the year, while ''Songs for Swingin' Sellers'' by Peter Sellers and ''Time to Celebrate'' by Russ Conway were both released in 1959 but did not reach their peak until 1960. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. Mario Lanza
Mario Lanza (, ; born Alfredo Arnold Cocozza ; January 31, 1921 – October 7, 1959) was an American tenor and actor. He was a Hollywood film star popular in the late 1940s and the 1950s. Lanza began studying to be a professional singer at the age of 16. After appearing at the Hollywood Bowl in 1947, Lanza signed a seven-year film contract with Louis B. Mayer, the head of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, who saw his performance and was impressed by his singing. Prior to that, the adult Lanza sang only two performances of an opera. The following year (1948), however, he sang the role of Pinkerton in Puccini's ''Madama Butterfly'' in New Orleans. His film debut for MGM was in ''That Midnight Kiss'' (1949) with Kathryn Grayson and Ethel Barrymore. ''Songs for Swingin' Lovers!'' is the tenth album by American singer Frank Sinatra and his fourth for Capitol Records. It was arranged by Nelson Riddle and released in March 1956 on LP and January 1987 on CD. It was the first album ever to top the UK Albums Chart. Production This album was arranged by Nelson Riddle, and took a different tack after ''In the Wee Small Hours'' (1955), recording existing pop standards in a hipper, jazzier fashion, revealing an overall exuberance in the vein of ''Songs for Young Lovers'' and '' Swing Easy!''. An additional track, "Memories of You", was recorded during the sessions but ultimately left off the album. ''Pal Joey'' is a 1957 American musical comedy film directed by George Sidney, loosely adapted from the Rodgers and Hart musical play of the same name, and starring Rita Hayworth, Frank Sinatra, and Kim Novak.
