Thai Pop Music
Thai pop or T-pop, is a genre of Thai music roughly equivalent to western pop. It emerged in the 1970s–80s, during which it was known as string music ( th, เพลงสตริง), before gaining mainstream popularity during the 1990s and has since dominated the Thai music industry. The term is extremely broad, covering Thai rock, dance music, rap and western-influenced popular music in general, though normally excluding the folk and rock-influenced ''phleng phuea chiwit''. The origins of string lie in American R&B, surf-rock artists like The Ventures and Dick Dale, Exotica, rockabilly and country and western brought to Thailand by American and Australian soldiers serving in Vietnam in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It also drew heavily on genres from the British Invasion, including rock and roll, garage rock and Hollywood film soundtracks. Vachirawit Chivaree ( th, วชิรวิชญ์ ชีวอารี; born 27 December 1997), known professionally as Bright Vachirawit or Bright ( th, ไบร์ท), is a Thai actor, singer, television host, model and entertainer. Lapat Ngamchaweng ( th, ลภัส งามเชวง, born 24 November 1998); popularly known by the nickname Third ( th, เติร์ด) is a Thai singer, actor, brand endorser and model. He was a former artist under Kamikaze and a former member of Nine by Nine. He is currently a member of the Thai boy group TRINITY. Early life and education Lapat was born on 24 November 1998 in Bangkok, Thailand. His mother is Ketsara Limpananon. He is the youngest of three siblings, having two older sisters named Larisa Ngamchaweng (Lyly) and Larisara Ngamchaweng (Biba). He was discovered on the third season of Thai television talent contest ''The Star''. Eve Pancharoen (; 7 August 1981), well known by her stage name Palmy (), is a Thai pop singer who has recorded and released several albums including concert DVDs on the GMM Grammy label, beginning with her self-titled solo debut, ''Palmy'', in 2001. Palmy has explored a variety of popular music styles on each of her four solo albums, and she has collaborated with the Thai ska band T-Bone to create experimental renditions of her hits (see ''Flower Power Concert'' and ''The Acoustic Album''.)
